Then you need to phone an insurance company and tell them that.

Generally Westy's are used for weekend blats, with the odd drive to work. Most people have a tintop for their regular run-of-the-mill driving :D

Ahem ... no-one seems to have mentioned the bike engined variants to you yet Graham. :D

You probably won't find one in your 5k price bracket but if you're after serious acceleration look no further. Cheapest option is a Honda Fireblade 893cc engined jobbie. 430kg, 130+ bhp, 12000 rpm, 6 speed sequential box, 0-60 in about 4 seconds. Not really fun at all :D:devil::t-up:

Bike engine ey? Sounds interesting.

I assume parts for these japo engines are well £££ tho, not like getting a dirty old Ford part from a scrapper!

BUT, 12000rpm is eye wateringly tempting. ;)

What £££ bracket do you need for this?

Jebus... 4secs is darn quick! I assume this is what you have Mr Bob?

In terms of Performance per pound the Fireblade-powered cars are amazingly good value and you can get the Blade engines for aorund the £800 - £1,000 mark (or less if you know where to look).

Or you can spend £150 on some wheezy, heavy old iron-block Ford unit and spend several thousand tuning it to get reasonable performance...

You can pick up a Blade for under £10K and I've even seem Busas advertised for around £13K (I run the latter it's an awesome bit of kit).

Downside to BECs is that they're more track-orientated and a bit extreme for road use (but fun!;). Oh and the Westfield reverse system is a bit fragile...

Hmmm, my engine cost me £500, and according to my spreadsheet I spent £164 on gaskets etc for a rebuild (included oil filler plug, spark plugs etc). Once I got it on the road the clutch was slipping so that cost me £70 for a set of Kevlar plates with heavy duty springs.

If anything major goes I'll just get another engine - mine's a '94 to avoid having a catalytic converter but now it's road legal I can put a newer engine in.
