adhawkins Posted March 5, 2003 Posted March 5, 2003 Sounds fine, however, bear in mind that every Westfield is different (the majority of them having been built by 'amateurs' ) so the only way to tell how good one is, is to go and look at it and drive it. Ideally, taking someone with experience of other Westfields so that they can tell you whether this one is a good or bad example. Andy Quote
SteveDavis Posted March 5, 2003 Author Posted March 5, 2003 Might go have a look sound like a good car Quote
adhawkins Posted March 6, 2003 Posted March 6, 2003 The general advice is to never buy the first one you look at (although I did, but I did get someone else to look at another one for me). And seriously, take along someone who knows Westfields if you can. Andy Quote
Bananaman Posted March 6, 2003 Posted March 6, 2003 Steve Looks like an SE? I thought you were after Wide bodied car? Did you want an independent rear suspention? SE = Standard bodied non Indipendent rear. SEi = Standard bodied Indipendent rear. SEW = Wide bodied non Indipendent rear. SEiW = Wide bodied Indipendent rear. This is proberbly the order of value/desirability IMHO. i.e. SE least valuble / desirable. SEiW most valuble / desirable. Andy P.S. (From another thread of yours) If you want Cycle wings go for a car with cycle wings, they may be more expensive but converting to cycle wings will be more expensive & proberbly not as good a job in the end? Quote
SteveDavis Posted March 6, 2003 Author Posted March 6, 2003 So that will be why the prise is down for the age and the mile all veru good info thanks people Quote
chrisbin Posted March 6, 2003 Posted March 6, 2003 yep, I'd say price is fair for a car of that spec. Quote
SteveDavis Posted March 6, 2003 Author Posted March 6, 2003 What sort of price are SEW = Wide bodied non Indipendent rear. SEiW = Wide bodied Indipendent rear. I think a wide body is best i am not the bigest of people but there will be more room in a wide body Quote
adhawkins Posted March 6, 2003 Posted March 6, 2003 I would have thought that to get a wide body you'd be talking about 6-7k as a minimum? Anyone? As for the difference between independant and non-independant, I personally haven't seen many (if any) SEW's (as opposed to SEiW's). I'm sure they exist, but I haven't seen one. Andy Quote
chrisbin Posted March 6, 2003 Posted March 6, 2003 Yep, I agree Andy, 6-7k for a crossflow or maybe CVH. 7-8k for 16V power. Be surprised if you find any cheaper and would have to ask why, if you do IYSWIM Andy's also right that SEW's are not at all common - now wait for all the SEW owners to come on here and prove us wrong!! Quote
Bananaman Posted March 6, 2003 Posted March 6, 2003 For a decent SEiW I recon you are starting aroung the £8 mark maybe less for an X-Flow/Pinto engined? (Pinto engines have the exhaust coming out the drivers side & tend to be 2.0L units (the MarkII Escort RS2000 had this engine) X-flows tend to be 1600 or 1700cc. Not many SEW's around, if you do find one I'd say they are worth about £1K less than the equivelant SEiW? Ball park figures of course. Andy Quote

Bananaman Posted March 6, 2003 Posted March 6, 2003 Steve for £500 more you can get SEiW version, or if you want some power go for the Toyota powered car? If you don't like the Close Ratio box you will be able to swap it for a normal type 9 (gerabox) & sell the Close Ratio jobbie on here for several hunded pounds? Andy Quote
samcooke Posted March 7, 2003 Posted March 7, 2003 (Pinto engines have the exhaust coming out the drivers side & tend to be 2.0L units (the MarkII Escort RS2000 had this engine Wasn't the RS2000's lump a bit more special than a normal 2.0 Pinto? I'm sure I remember 110bhp against 90 in a 2.0 Crapi. Quote
