stephenh Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 Sodium Hypochlorite is used to disinfect swimming pools and even pipes and vessels in the food and drinks industries I believe. A friend of mine buys it without difficulty to use in his swimming pool. It does create hydrochloric acid, and releases oxygen, when diluted with water (which is why it so effective as a steralising agent) so you would need to use it very dilute I should think or it would burn any grass or plants next to the drive. blitz Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 I have exactly the same problem, made worse because the trees are Limes that spew Sugar solution in huge qauntities all summer, this feeds the moss and turns the cars black. It also atracts Wasps, sometimes the car is alive with them. Unfortunatly the trees belong to the Highways Dept. and they won't reduce the size of them. They are massive, higher than my three story house and they bury us with various things, starting with what appears to be tobacco in the spring, then cases off the buds, then HUGE amounts of leaves, so many that if I sweep them out into the road, they amount to drifts 3 foot high, half the width of the road and 20 feet long. Every gap on the cars fills up with this crap, which gets wet and rots, it's a nightmare. If I cut them down the fine would ruin me. B$%&*$%*S Rant over. Quote

I thought it was legal to remove any overhanging branches from a "neighbours" tree. If the Highways Agency aren't being good neighbours, report them to the council like you would any other troublesome neighbour, listing your grievances and what you consider a reasonable solution...
