Doug Dastardly Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 Hi all, I wanted to share my awesome weekend with the world (or at least the small part of it that might care ) Over 1100 miles, Under £200 on fuel (just), £110 on hotels.....the hidden costs of buying a westy Friday, after work Travelled south Saturday Travelled further south to Oulton Park for fun in the sun. Caught an afternoons BSB racing and a couple of pints. Everything's set up well for a sunday thriller. Romantic meal in Chester with GF Sunday Its tropical at Oulton Fantastic day at the races, plenty of excitement and sun, it was like summer. Oulton Park's a very nice place to hang out I've decided. Headed further south to Kingswinford. Domino's in hotel room-fund's getting low! Monday New car day Had a great van which swallowed up a car!! There wasn't much room left on the way home, don't know how I'd have fitted everything in if the factory had it all!! Bought a rear diffuser D'oh ........more money. That's probably why they keep you hanging around so long How the finished thing will look hopefully: Drove home for 12 hours through zero degree temps in the hills, fog and deer! The joys of living in Scotland Time to build.......... Hope this all works, its my first time posting pictures. If I feel the need to tell the world how my build's coming along should it be here or newbies? Thanks for reading, Doug Quote
Paul Hurdsfield - Joint Manchester AO Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Great enjoy the build Quote

Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 excellent weekend adventure...... Absolutely, I remember the day I went down to collect mine, that along with the test drive day are some of those great little milestone memories. enjoy the build, and most importantly, it's NOT work, have fun, take your time if that what works best for you, or take a few weeks off and attack it all guns blazing. To look forward to: Finishing paneling, (if not factory done) Adding suspension and brakes - looks like a race car in your garage Big day - dropping a rolling chassis to the floor, (and sitting in it making brum brum noises ) Fitting the engine and 'box Big day - starting the engine! Its a fantastic moment. Big day - passing IVA and getting your plates And don't forget take plenty of piccies, and post them up here, we Build threads. Quote
matt_c Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Big day - starting the engine! Its a fantastic moment. I've recently reached this stage and I totally agree, whilst a bit nerve racking it's a nice feeling when it springs in to life. Matt Quote
RedditchJay Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 lol...... think there was a youtube thread of someone who started a kit..... locked on full throttle and couldnt kill the engine......bbbbbbBANG JUST to keep you on your toes.... check throttle and ensure you have a plan B to turn off very fast and / or get out clear "just incase" Quote
Matta Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Doug - Looking forward to hearing all about the build! No pressure but remember you'll have to finish it by 24th June next year to join us in Applecross..... Matt Quote
matt_c Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Hi all,I wanted to share my awesome weekend with the world (or at least the small part of it that might care ) Sounds like a full and fun packed weekend Doug. What spec and colour/s have you ordered? Matt Quote
Doug Dastardly Posted October 13, 2010 Author Posted October 13, 2010 QUOTE What spec and colour/s have you ordered? Thanks for the interest and good luck messages. Its the special edition they're offering this summer.....with a few tweaks 2.0 zetec with raceline sump RAC roll bar Wide track Upgraded brakes Heater Sport turbo seats It should look like the one in my first post when finished. Some might say I've no imagination choosing the same colours as the showroom car but my normal car and bike and push bike are all blue so why spoil the theme! As for being finished by june.............we'll see. Spent 5 hours just cleaning bodywork (bl***y tape), getting the thing onto stands and sorting through boxes. Another 3 hours tonight doing more sorting and trial fitting the front suspension (lazily got the factory to fit panels, loom and brake pipes). Half the battle is finding the correct bolts etc. One of my missing items is a fastener kit which doesn't help. So if I do a build thread should it be here or in newbies? Please advise Doug Quote
Asterix Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Nice spec. Ditch the screen, IMO (apologies if you have and I missed it). Quote
Doug Dastardly Posted October 13, 2010 Author Posted October 13, 2010 Nice spec. Ditch the screen, IMO (apologies if you have and I missed it). At the time of ordering I started a thread asking for advice on spec when it was suggested to go for an aeroscreen. At the time I wanted full weather gear and so had to keep the screen, but EVERYONE who posted replies to that thread said to go for a RAC roll bar so I ditched the full weather gear for the roll bar, which would have allowed me to go for the aeroscreen...........but I think I prefer the tradional look of a screen. Anyway it would be an easy swap later if I fancied. And I am aware of the contradiction in someone who's just bought a FW bodied car mentioning tradition.... Doug Quote
