mark.anson Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 Don't know the answer Pete, but I'd have thought Phil at Road and Race could advise. Quote

Matt Seabrook Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 About 30ftlb preload should do it Pete Quote
pete g Posted October 11, 2010 Author Posted October 11, 2010 is that it just sent mine off for check over they said it was set at 45lb but the setting should of been for the heavy setting i think 65lb i think when it was last done only 8 events ago i tried a torque wrench on it and found it about 40lb at the wheel nut. [more leverage]after i fitted it. when i removed it. it seemed only 20lb and the wheel nut. so it had let off. but because i was measuring torque at wheel nut and not the centre maybe i was getting low readings. i found it ok at the higher setting . now it was not new when i got it .so dont no how worn it was. only removed it because i had problem at anglesly last time out. [which was a gearbox problem] plus it seemed more clonky than normal going to get it repaired with new kit .but do i go for higher setting or lower setting .im confused regarding the ramp angles etc. plus im putting a fair amount of power through it 260bhp so will it wear quite quickly and lose setting .and therefore higher setting maybe better Quote
a4gom Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 Some stuff here pete but a quick call to dan in the morn will sort you out. Do you know if you have a Tran-x english lsd or a tran-x salisbury english lsd this will make a difference to how many variables are available off the shelf Quote
pete g Posted October 11, 2010 Author Posted October 11, 2010 good link think i got the english one .one with holes in side not slots. so what did you end up setting to it seems my preload is not to bad but i dont know the ramp angles problem is they said it was set to harder setting but quite worn to the lower setting. so still looks like a repair/refresh Quote
Matt Seabrook Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 I have set my preload up at about 35lb which should drop with use to about 30lb. If it is the Tran-x diff then the ramps can be changed I have 35-90 on my diff which works for me but others will like different ramps. Quote
pete g Posted October 11, 2010 Author Posted October 11, 2010 thats sounds good to me so i can get ramp angles of 35/90 and set preload to about 40lb. will phone trans-x tomorrow Quote
Matt Seabrook Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 Sounds about right just the 40lb is a little high for my liking but that may suit you. Quote
a4gom Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 I don't know what the inside of yours looks like but on mine there are two clutch type plates, if it's set fully inter or heavy they at either side of a plate which acts to lock it up, if it's set to light weight they are put adjacent to each other basically halfing the pre load, mine were fully inter, now they are set to light weight. I haven't tested the preload since so not sure what difference it's made. I think new fully inter its says 70-90 on the spec sheet, light weight 25-35 Mine was showing 48 before hand so it must have been worn. I didn't replace anything and it's still working ok so there must be some preload. I have the spec sheet at work so will check the numbers in the morning. Not sure if yours is the same. I'm very limited when it comes to ramp angles Quote
pete g Posted October 11, 2010 Author Posted October 11, 2010 sounds like yours was like mine in that it was set to high setting but worn to give lower reading. from what i have been told you can fit the plates ether way around high and low . not sure about the ramp angles either may have to buy other parts. John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 If it helps, my Tran X diff has identical settings to Matts (by coincidence) Quote
pete g Posted October 12, 2010 Author Posted October 12, 2010 just found out my ramps werre set 30/60 on full inter setting but worn to 40lb so im going to try it with same ramp settings but with new plate kit set on lower torque setting about 35lb otherwise i need to buy more parts trans -x reconmend 45/90 ramps but said if i was happy with the 30/60 ramps which i was it was not a problem it would just lock up quicker. thanks for advice regards pete Quote
