wrightster Posted March 5, 2003 Posted March 5, 2003 do westys have disks or drums at the back (seiws) ?? sorry if this is a stoopid question tia Quote
Quick_Learner Posted March 5, 2003 Posted March 5, 2003 discs with sierra 4x4 calipers with handbrake mech. Quote
wrightster Posted March 5, 2003 Author Posted March 5, 2003 why would an seiw have drums at the rear ? i have been offered one with this set up Quote
adhawkins Posted March 5, 2003 Posted March 5, 2003 This is a guess, but could it be live axle rather than independant? Andy Quote
ACW Posted March 5, 2003 Posted March 5, 2003 because it is a pre 1992/93 with an escort diff. Back in the early 90's late eighties the only uprights westfield did for these early sei(w)'s was drum brakes. nowt wrong with it if the price relflects the age. Quote
wrightster Posted March 5, 2003 Author Posted March 5, 2003 Andy - i thought that as well, but the guy says its an seiw, its the 4age powered one on findit aah as Adrian says - it is a 1991 car so thatll be why cheers folks Quote
JonnyBoy Posted March 5, 2003 Posted March 5, 2003 Pre 90 sierras had drums on the rear. They used the eary type diff...not the b-type so i'm guessing the 'a-type' !?! other kits use this arrangement along with the rest of the sierra rear subframe. (tiger etc) places like kit-fit sell this diff and brake set, so i'm guessing it fits. (but not on the westfield fabricated rear uprights though) If memory serves me correctly, Russdaf (now Russbif) had the earlt type diff oonverted to accept lobros (i probably got that completely wrong) Kit-fit also do a drum-caliper conversion kit Quote
JulianS Posted March 5, 2003 Posted March 5, 2003 it is a 1991 car so thatll be why mine's 91 and has discs Quote
ACW Posted March 5, 2003 Posted March 5, 2003 you can still buy the uprights from westfield to hang calipers off => discs at the back. Diff is escort Mkii in a westfield carrier, to make it independant - Not sierra. Quote
Terry Everall Posted March 5, 2003 Posted March 5, 2003 Mine is 92 chassis and independent and has drums on westfield ally uprights on rear. The drum brakes are no problem as they do not lock up easily and most of braking effect stays at the front where you need it Quote
Mark Stanton Posted March 5, 2003 Posted March 5, 2003 1989 Sei wide chassis with Escort diff in Westfield casing and rear discs fitted all as Japanese export models being produced at the time Discs were available as an optional extra over drums Next ............... Quote
