BobM Posted March 3, 2003 Posted March 3, 2003 You poor mites in your car engined Westies ... I did 180 miles on my last tankful in my 'Blade engined one - 35mpg That was a long run though back from Devon in the p***ing rain last week. Couldn't see so kept it to about 70mph Does about 27mpg even when I'm being naughty. Quote
SteveDavis Posted March 3, 2003 Author Posted March 3, 2003 is it realy bad in the rain then is there any think you can do Quote
shaun Posted March 3, 2003 Posted March 3, 2003 £15 for 150 miles. Mine does 30 - 35 mpg. 1800 zetec on throttle bodies. Although I normally have to fill up after about 100 miles unless I avoid left hand high speed corners when the little fuel left in the tank swirls over to the right hand side and therefore fuel starvation Quote
adhawkins Posted March 3, 2003 Posted March 3, 2003 I can't comment on what it's like driving one in heavy rain. I've driven one in fairly light rain and it's not really a problem (as long as you're moving). That was without the hood. As I said earlier, I don't think I could comfortably get in and out of one with the hood fitted, so I'll probably not bother. You have to remember how much power you have under your right foot of course! Andy Quote
BobM Posted March 4, 2003 Posted March 4, 2003 is it realy bad in the rain then is there any think you can do Bear in mind mine only has aeroscreens rather than a windscreen. Although I've heard people say windscreens aren't that much fun in the rain as the wipers only work on the outside! I'm sure someone else will comment on the virtues (or otherwise) of a Westfield with weather gear in the wet. Quote
SteveDavis Posted March 4, 2003 Author Posted March 4, 2003 I would be looking for one with a screen but they are still not much fun in the rain Quote
chrisbin Posted March 4, 2003 Posted March 4, 2003 I would be looking for one with a screen but they are still not much fun in the rain But I thought you were asking what they are like.... is it realy bad in the rain then is there any think you can do ?? Are you sure you're not MrD messing us about....?? Quote
Warren E Smith Posted March 4, 2003 Posted March 4, 2003 If you're seriously thinking about getting one for every day use - I'd honestly think about the following:- Highly Tuned X-Flows "APPEAR" to have - with the abuse they get in Se7en - a tendency to need more than minor fettling after about 15K to 20 K miles (along comes someone to tell me Im wrong?) so CVH/Zetec/VX could be an advantage. If you're using it every day. remember, if you plan to use the engine/car, change the oil every 3 to 5K Miles (Whats £20 of oil vs a premature rebuild?) If you're not used to real wheel drive cars in the rain, think about getting a driving course/ skid control course/ a couple of early track days. It'd be a lot less expensive / heartbreaking than learning about over steer the hard way, especially if you choose to get say a nice 2.0 VX or Zetec turning out 170+ at the flywheel. But then I learned the hard way with my hairdressers Mk1 MR2 - but I woz jammy and got away with it (good reactions from a Volvo driver probably saved my life..... ) Oh & the other things 1./ Join the club 2./ Don't buy a Robin Hood 3./ Look at quality of construction/ attention to detal 4./ do lots and lots and lots of searches 5./ fine your nearest area meets & blag rides in say a BEC & couple of CEC's HTH Oh and you'll have to get use to the "Yokel Dialect" here IFYSWIM Warren Quote
SteveDavis Posted March 4, 2003 Author Posted March 4, 2003 Thanks for the help i have been to lots of look and talking to people i think i nice zetc is the way to go Quote
Buzz Billsberry Posted March 4, 2003 Posted March 4, 2003 I agree with Warren apart from the Zetec bit as I run a XE But I must admit I've been caught in major thunder storms and have been absolutely blathered regardless of the weather gear My worst experience was a drive from Leeds to Cadwell Park approx 80 miles... might be more might be less who cares, anyway, its was clement weather for about 45 mins into the journey when I was picked up by a rain cloud that followed me down to Cadwell. The rain came up off the road up thro' the gap between the side screen and body work( & Mine is a very snug fit) plus from under where the screen meets schuttle which then dribbled down the dash on to my legs. It was also coming in where the side screens meets the windscreen uprights, and to add insult to dampness, I couldn't see out of the window screen for the mist, mind you I was doing 70-80mph most of the way to reduce the journey time despite that the heat from the engine kept me warm until the journey's end the one thing you'll always get in wet/damp/drizzle is 'Westfield leg' Its a damp patch just on the outside of your right thigh!! unless you're wearing waterproofs of course But for the impracticalities of a Westfield they are great fun so enjoy!! look forward to seeing you at the Speed Series or at one of the many Westfield Bashes so come and join Team Yorkshire for a beer Plus you can meet your name sake, but be warned it may be unpleasant Buzz Quote
