Getting wheels from a breakers yard?

Recommended Posts

Posted

I'm after some cheap wheels & tyres for thrashing around airfields, so someone has suggested I get down to my local scrapyard.

My Westie is a 1999 seiw, sport carbon. The current wheels are Ford PCD, ET35 15x7 I believe.

So if I go down to the local scrappie, will any Ford wheel fit, or do I need to be specific about the age/type I want?

cheers,

Greg

Hello Greg,

Rear wheel drive Ford wheels would be ideal, e.g. RS Escort, Capri. Personally I wouldn't bother trying a scrap yard, a better bet would be the adverts in Classic Ford or CCC magazines etc. I would look for 13 inch wheels 6 or 7 inches wide as 'good' track day tyres to fit these wheels are readily available ACB10's etc.
