Brucester70 Posted February 28, 2003 Posted February 28, 2003 I have a new company car on order and have gone for a Seat Leon Cupra R, the 210bhp variety. I have looked at upgrades and come accross the offering from Forge, in particular their Revo chip. After a telephone call to them I understand that they plug a laptop into the diagnostics port on the car and upload a new ECU programme to the chip, this apparantly is undetectable by the VAG diagnostics checks at the service. They also offer a switch that can flip between stock mode and performance mode, which I may go for. The remap apparanty ups the power from 210BHP to 263BHP and the torque figure rises to 287lbs, pretty impressive! I wonder if anyone knows much about this or has had any experience with forge? Mike H Posted February 28, 2003 Posted February 28, 2003 Sounds good, but all that power in a FWD car? Does it have launch control? Are you sure you want it? Is it done without any exhaust/intake mods? If it's a co. car and your co. has it on a lease then you may be in deep do do when you give it back. Have you thought about AMD ? Mike Quote
Brucester70 Posted February 28, 2003 Author Posted February 28, 2003 Apparantly I can just get the ecu defaulted back to the original when the three year lease is up. There is no need for upgraded intakes and exhausts on this one. The Cupra R has traction control, but I imagine the car would be a lot of fun! Quote
steve_m Posted February 28, 2003 Posted February 28, 2003 A recent rolling road test of a Forge conversion didn't give anywhere near that torque, more like 250-260 IIRC which is only an extra 30 or so lb ft. It's basically the old APR program, even the same people involved - their conversions were reasonably smooth and switchable but having driven a couple, gutless. Best bet is either MTM (QuattroSports) or AmD. MTM uses more boost to give a big torque figure which is really satisfying - my old TT225 had over 320 lb ft torque at 2900rpm. AmD is a smoother map than MTM - best thing about AmD is their overall knowledge and quality of their service. VAG dealers tend not to be too worried about chip conversions, some of them will even send the car to the tuner for you. (Wayside in MK) Quote
minghis Posted February 28, 2003 Posted February 28, 2003 Brucester, Did you look at the Toledo V5 before you made the choice? - the reason I ask is that I'm in the process of choosing my next c.car and am considering it because it's quick and has everything with it, leather, sat nav, etc. Minghis Quote
Brucester70 Posted March 1, 2003 Author Posted March 1, 2003 I didn't look at the Toledo V5, I do like the look of the Cupra R and it looks very smart and gets a very good right up. If I do get an ECU remap I would like to possible be able to swap back to stock as I dont want any probs with the lease company or at least have it so VAG diagnostics doesnt pick it up! I will give the Cupra R a couple of months to loosen up and see what its really like as it should go quite well with out the remap Quote
