Uncle Fester Posted September 25, 2010 Posted September 25, 2010 Having tried an auto solo and really enjoyed it I thought I would do the next one with the Oxford Motor club at Silverstone. Seems, according to the regs, list 1B tyres (888s etc) are not allowed. Having just done the FDMC one with 4 other Westies on 888s this seems a bit wierd. Does this mean, under MSA rules, that we shouldn't have competed there either? Quote
Mark Stanton Posted September 25, 2010 Posted September 25, 2010 Nope it just means that one organising club allows them whilst another doesn't - there are often various different rules throughout the UK MSA Blue book is only for guidance there are generally no specific class structures or event rules except where safety is concerned Quote
tcc21racing Posted September 25, 2010 Posted September 25, 2010 FDMC are banning 1B's for next year if you look through the posts on the FDMC forum you will see the long debate, as Mark says its down to the club. Maybe if more seven type cars compete their would be more of a voice however untill the last Solo this has not been the case. Seams mad as FDMC sprints allow 1A+1B's in the same class Il stop before I start ranting I will not be using my westie for any FDMC Solo's as I am not going to by a set of 1A's just to do 4 events, even if they are great fun Quote
Nic Ayre Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 AutoSolos are a starter motorsport and there was a more and more competitive streak between some competitors, meaning that to be competitive those without List 1B tyres, would have to go out and buy a set. Back to back tests showed that the List 1B were about 3 seconds a test quicker. If you check out page 201, rule 5 states that clubs or championships need to apply in writing to the MSA to ask permission to use List 1B tyres. The actual wording is being clarified I believe for 2011. If this has not been done then nobody should be running List 1B. List 1B has been banned from most Autotest Championships as well in a bid to keep costs down. What you have to remember an AutoSolo is a clubby event, where you don't have medical cover, Dr/Ambulance on hand, so certain restrictions need to be maintained to keep the speeds down. You can always use the everyday car for an AutoSolo!! Quote

Changing from list 1B's to 1A's is not going to reduce the top speeds reached I know this as i have run both. If you want to slow the quick cars just water the track before they go out Anyhow this has all been debated at great length and as it stands no list 1B's for next season in the kit car class, hence the nice drive to Bristol today to pick up a set to alloys and 1A tyres for my dad because this reduces costs Quote

So much for keeping cots down, as you say Quote
