steve_m Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 Found a little hole at the end of my garage . . too small for a rat to get through but just big enough for a mouse to squeeze through. Have plugged the hole up but I think I ought to get a little rodent trap. What is the most effective way of catching and killing mice in a garage without using something which is going to attract them in the first place, like mice food. I also want it to be as painless as possible so needs to kill quite quickly. Quote
chris7273 Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 a cat ? but I reckon it could be a slow and painful death... Quote
Cleggy the Spyder Man Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 I had one in the kitchen - two sprung traps - used chocolate spread and within two days the little fella was caught luckily we heard the trap go and it nipped him by the tail and I released him down the bottom of the garden in full health must admit if I had of purchased the traps I would have got some of the ones where they crawl in then a gate drops - then you can release them Quote
JeffC Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 from my experience we use "the little nipper" and white choccy they cant resist it ,but my old fella always used bacon Quote
Rory's Dad Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 ...and then block up the hole with some wire wool to stop it happening again. Rory's Dad Quote
tex Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 with 4 cats now mice population is decimated. Quote
Carl Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 QUOTE must admit if I had of purchased the traps I would have got some of the ones where they crawl in then a gate drops - then you can release them I did this (wife wanted the sprung traps), however we must have had the James Bond of mice. Was able to get the choclate out of the trap without getting trapped. Even satyed up one night to catch him at it. By the time I got there he was sat on the top of the trap eyeballing me. After a week the "sleeping potion" came out. Quote
dombanks Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 zappy and molly do the job for us although whatever zappy braught in latnight didnt want to die very easy as the was a large blood smear and a stomach the size of a walnut on the floor thismorning! please dont use rat poison as it can lead to secondary poisining in other animals. Mark Stanton Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 QUOTE then you can release them and they find there way back Poison by hole and they'll take it back to nest and nor more mice I have some ultrasonic wotsits plugged in and they seem to keep all such stuff at bay Quote

Nic Ayre Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 Cats are effective, although Jenson & Button bring in far more than would make the effort themselves. They were chasing one around the conservatory the other night and then lost sight of it, when I came out it was sat underneath Jenson and he hadn't seen it. Lost count of how many times I have pulled the freezer out!! Mouse traps are much cheaper!! Quote
lomate Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 mate had them in loft was told to use peanut butter which worked a treat Quote
Stuart Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 If you use the humane traps (SWMBO insists), recommend you take them for a car ride before you release them, otherwise they will just come straight back Quote
