echoz Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 Have had tooth ache for a couple of days now, progressively getting worse to the point that its kept me awake for most of last night. Have been looking online and seen prices are somewhat on the hysterical laughter side, canny afford that. Is the emergency dentist free? Off to uni in a week, have under £150 in my bank, and still looking for a job, would rather that £150 was saved for food for a couple weeks you know?!?! Any help muchly appreciated as always Quote
Cleggy the Spyder Man Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 no sensible advice sorry but you could try piece of string and a door Quote
Simeon Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 Just had the same myself. Do you need to keep swilling water round your mouth? if so then it's a nerve inside the root canal dying which has produced a gas and the cooling of the water contracts the pressure thus relieving it temporarily. The upshot is you would need a root canal filling. I think i paid £16 to see the emergency dentist who drilled it out and put in a temporary filling. I then saw my own dentist who did the permanent root canal filling which cost £45. Keep insisting that it's still the same course of treatment so they don't keep loading the fees Surely you should get free tratment if your unemployed pre-scaffing freeloading student Quote
dombanks Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 if you go to a uni like liverpool that has a dental school you might be able to get it done there, either officially or round the back in the car park with some student dentist Quote
echoz Posted September 16, 2010 Author Posted September 16, 2010 Cleggy, its very tempting, the pliers in the garage are looking awfully tempting. Dom, was just saying to myself why couldnt it have been a week later when i move down to plym. And thanks for the advice Simeon, will bare that in mind to make sure they dont rip me off, also cant say im tryin g to get rid of the pain, paracetamol didnt work at all yesterday, neither did rubbing a crushed one on the tooth and gum of said pain, used clove oil over a friends house, worked for a little while. Having to wait till 9am to ring the emergency dentist, and then its a 45 minute drive away. I'd rather break my leg tbh. Quote
echoz Posted September 16, 2010 Author Posted September 16, 2010 oh, and nope apparently being a uni student entitles you to nothing Quote
RedditchJay Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 Dentists out of hours will charge what they feel is reasonable.... is there a dental hospital near you.... they are normally free as its newbies that carry out the work..... failing that get your A*** to the dentest a.s.a.p during daylight hours ............ IMHO Quote
carpetstu Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 Can I get free dental treatment? Various groups are entitled to free UK dental treatment, including those who are: • 18 years old and in full-time education • Pregnant or have had a baby in the last 12 months • Receiving certain benefits Quote
echoz Posted September 16, 2010 Author Posted September 16, 2010 Stu, that's what I (or more what I got my missus to argue after I dribbled everywhere lol) apparently not, gonna have a looksee at that link now! Been to the temple of doom and had it pulled out, turns out I was right, the filling had come loose and become infected behind, which shouldnt happen apparently, so save hassle later, I just said remove it and have done . Hate the dentist, 45 quid for something that takes 15 seconds, and id rather be eaten alive by a dinosaur! Quote
echoz Posted September 16, 2010 Author Posted September 16, 2010 Ahh Stu it says 18 years, I'm 19 now all the same still a con, and its cheaper over in welsh land! Anyone have any knowledge on why we have to pay for dental care? How is it justified that my sister when she turns 18 will have to have 1800 quid to hand to pay for implant for her front tooth that got knocked out when she fell off her push bike as a young'un? Bit of debate might take my mind of the pain im about to endure Quote
echoz Posted September 16, 2010 Author Posted September 16, 2010 Also now i have a big gap where my tooth was, will smoking cause an infection? Dieing for a fag now, but if it will cause problems gonna have to deal with it Oh, and to whoever replies, thanks for putting up with me Quote
Captain Colonial Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 Also now i have a big gap where my tooth was, will smoking cause an infection? YES - don't do it! Quote
slater Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 QUOTE will smoking cause an infection? Not in your tooth but may be cancer, give it up says an ex 50 a day man. Just had a tooth out £110 + £40 for the initial check up but finding a NHS dentist is quite hard here. Need to have another one out which will leave me with no teeth on one side, the dentist suggested two implants.............£5000 think I will just live on soft food then have the rest out. lewis Quote
echoz Posted September 18, 2010 Author Posted September 18, 2010 £5000 just buy a blender 2 days later and all seems well no pain Quote
Norman Verona Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 Dentstry isn't free in France. I think some get 100% but the rest pay towards it. I had 4 1/2 visits to my dentist last year. 46€ for the whole lot. Who said rip-off Britain. ed to add my sympathies for little echo. If you'd have found an NHS dentist isn't it cheaper? Or was that an NHS dentist. Quote
