fordy Posted January 27, 2003 Posted January 27, 2003 Hello, My insurance renewal has just arrived - was wondering who insures with who. Im currently with Adrian Flux, coming out at £216, restricted 3000 miles. Anyone paying less??? and if so, who with ? 1700 xflow, SEiW Quote
chrisbin Posted January 27, 2003 Posted January 27, 2003 Just to quote our esteemed contributor...... ".....try the search function...."!!! But just for info, I'm with HHH, 3,000mls, £216. (justthe right side of 40 ) but 2 FP's. HTH Oh yes, and best doesn't always mean cheapest especially when it comes to making a claim.......I understand that some companies mentioned in this area are reckoned to be worse than useless.....allegedly etc etc Quote
Nick M Posted January 27, 2003 Posted January 27, 2003 Also speak to Dave Spragg at MSM insurance. Not always the quickest chap in the world but a) knows what he's talking about when it comes to kit cars and b) is very helpful when it comes to actually making a claim. I know of at least one person who's had to do this and it was a pretty painless experience with Dave offering advice and assistance along the way. I was insured through him before I brought the car over to the US and will be using him again upon its return. Quote
minghis Posted January 27, 2003 Posted January 27, 2003 I'm with Adrian Flux and am paying less than you, but I would not renew my policy with them even if they were 90% cheaper than everyone else. I had a very bad experience with them, just after they had my credit card details. Be warned. Minghis Quote
POC Posted January 27, 2003 Posted January 27, 2003 Im with Adrian Flux too... paying £466 for 3000miles fully comp on my stage 3 cossie turbo ZEi220, I am only 22 though so not that bad! P Quote
wrightster Posted January 27, 2003 Posted January 27, 2003 Can i just ask (sorry) sort of on this subject, what do people normally do when they are buying their westie, cos obviously you cant insure an exact car (engine size, reg etc) before buying cos you dont know for sure that you are going to buy it untill you see it (!!??) sorry hope this makes sense sorry for asking this on your thread Fordy, FWIW i rang footman james who gave me what i considered a very reasonable quote (for guidance) Quote

Then when I made the actual purchase, I rang and they arranged cover within 5 minutes... Which I thought was pretty good ! HTH Quote
AndyM Posted January 27, 2003 Posted January 27, 2003 I've also had problems with Adrian Flux and am currently with Footman James - no problems there. Quote
adhawkins Posted January 27, 2003 Posted January 27, 2003 Hi, What I did was basically decide on the highest spec car I could afford (in my case, a 2.0 Zetec powered car, valued at around 10k) and get a quote on that. That way, I was fairly sure it would only ever be less than that. A few things to consider 1. Do you want to use the car for work? Make sure cover is included if you do. 2. How about track days? Will the car be covered? Is there an option to pay extra for each track day? 3. Mileage limit. I think my car is limited to 4500 miles, but I can up that later if it looks close. It's difficult to know how many miles I'm actually going to do, but I'm trying to use it every weekend even now I only know these things now, cos I jumped straight for the cheapest policy (which was with HHH in my case). It's only now that I'm starting to wonder about the things I should have checked beforehand I was very surprised at how 'reasonably' priced cover is compared to my tintop. For my 52 reg ST170 I'm paying well over 500 quid (although admittedly for up to 25k miles a year), and my Westy is only about 300 or so I think. I'll second the recommendation for Dave Sprag (sp?) as well. He was very helpful when I was first looking around, including when I was interested in a car that later turned out to have been involved in an insurance write-off. His advice on that aspect means I'll certainly consider him in future. Andy Quote
fordy Posted January 27, 2003 Author Posted January 27, 2003 Thanks for the answers. Im being a bit put off with renewing with Adrian Flux, lots of bad experiences it seems. I take it HHH is Hill House Hammond, Footman james quoted me lots last year, maybe worth giving them a try again. Nick, do you have any contact detaisl for MSM insurance?? Im 30, with 1 accident and 3 points, so 216 doesnt seem too bad after all. thanks Chris Quote

Warren E Smith Posted January 27, 2003 Posted January 27, 2003 My two penneth for what they're worth when I got the westie I rand Adrian Flux They said "You had an accident 4 years ago, Do you have the letter from the insurers stating the amount claimed and the total cost of the claim?" errrr....... No. Nobody gets this do they! "Well I'm sorry but until you get that letter then we aren't able to complete a quote for you" Errr but thats 4 years ago, isn't that beyond the date that'll effect the value of the insurance? "Yes only claims in the last 3 years effect the insurance" I've Never phoned them since...... Also, my brother had problems with them with his c******m. HHH were good when I made a claim, helpful (when pushed...but they are an insurer - right!?!, but would only pay for me to hire a trailer to get my car to Westfield - I had to pay the fuel etc to get it there - and then I had to drive it home. Otherwise they'd have had one of their "approved" garages do the work. Don't TeamWestfield have an insurance side too? Footman James (my first insurers) were good and MSM very quick on the response time. Good luck Quote
Nick M Posted January 27, 2003 Posted January 27, 2003 Don't TeamWestfield have an insurance side too? Does Team Westfield have *any* sides any more ??!! Sorry, carry on with the insurance topic. Don't mind me.... Quote

Mark Stanton Posted January 27, 2003 Posted January 27, 2003 TW / Westfield recommend Footman James - they are just 15 minutes away from the factory in Cradley Heath and do a lot of work and occasional sponsorship with the folks in Kingswinford so have knowledge of whats what Quote
