MARK1212 Posted February 3, 2003 Posted February 3, 2003 Does anyone know the difference between the 1.6 OHC and 2.0 OHC Sierras? (Apart from the obvious power etc) I am looking to build a Single Donor Westfield and the 1.6 pre 1991 Sierras seem far easier to find than the 2.0 pre 1989 ones or maybe its just because I live in Northern Ireland. stu999 Posted February 3, 2003 Posted February 3, 2003 AFAIK the 1.6 Sierra has smaller rear drums, and non-vented disks. If my brain cell serves me correctly, this was the donor car that Silva recommended for their IRS Strikers (the bigger/vented brakes of the 2.0 would probably never be utilised on something as light as a Westy). You could always fit a 2.0 engine at a later date (subject to the 1.6 being a suitable donor for the Westfield kit, maybe an idea to check with the factory first). HTH Stu. Quote
Andrew Posted February 4, 2003 Posted February 4, 2003 Have just read this months Kit car mag, there's an article on the single donor westy in it,It appears they're using the Sierra sterring column and prop shaft. Just out of interest, is the factory modifying these items F.O.C, as they did with escort axles, and alegro columns?(Do they need modifying?) Quote
MARK1212 Posted February 4, 2003 Author Posted February 4, 2003 Thanks for the info so far. I would assume/hope there shouldn't be that much modification required. I have sent off for a build manual for it - so hopefully it will shed some light on things. Quote
Warren E Smith Posted February 7, 2003 Posted February 7, 2003 Will you put a post on here after digesting the manual and let us all know your opinions on ease of build etc? TA Warren Quote
MARK1212 Posted February 8, 2003 Author Posted February 8, 2003 All I received was the normal SE / Sei build manual which uses all sorts of strange (i.e. non sierra) parts. I rang westfield to be told that they are still working on a 'supplement' manual to take account of the changes to build. They said they would send it out when it was complete - no time frame given. When it comes I will try to add a new topic on it. Quote
Sideways-Darren Posted February 8, 2003 Posted February 8, 2003 why not get a 2.0l granada??? they have rear disks as standard. get the sohc car and u get a type 9 gear box or if u get the twin cam car u get the 75 gear box ... ok the engines no good to u but if your fitting a zetec...! i found sierra's with rear disks a real pain to find, they all seem to have drums. Quote
Mark Stanton Posted February 9, 2003 Posted February 9, 2003 75 gear box ... ok the engines no good to u but if your fitting a zetec...! You can still fit the type 9 and in a MT75 chassis fit it much further baaaaaaack - Search loads of info Quote
Andrew Posted February 9, 2003 Posted February 9, 2003 But is the new single donor chassis available in wide tunnel form?, Is it any different to a regular SEI chassis? questions, questions! Quote
karlgurney Posted February 17, 2003 Posted February 17, 2003 i got all my sierra bits of one of my mates sierra 2.8 4x4 which he blew up, all the stuff for the back end fits and they have rear discs as well Quote
