Nikko2 Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 Finally got round to re-advertising our car for sale. Original sale fell through at the beginning of summer. Everyone who has called about it so far has been from on the continent? In fact the person who came to buy it orginally was living in Spain. To date have had interest from people in Spain, Belgium and Germany. Are there complications with selling a car to someone in another country? Where are the UK buyers? Quote
Norman Verona Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 Nick, the brits haven't any money. Something to do with bankers. However, the exchange rate for Euros is now at 1.20, the highest it's been for months. It was 1.48. Here endeth the economy lesson as to why the foreigners want your car. Nothing difficult in selling to another country. There's a part of the V5c for exporting the vehicle. Just be carefull how you get paid. safest way is cash and take the payer to the bank with you to pay it in. Quote
Nikko2 Posted September 12, 2010 Author Posted September 12, 2010 Thanks nverona. They are very interested in lambda sensors on the continent too it seems... Quote
cabbron Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 easy peasy nick, get them to bring cash (gbp) and go to your bank and pay it in with them.if the car goes abroad they need the main part of the v5 and you send off the bit saying its permanently exported-copy everything just to be on the safe side.good luck with the sale-gone for somthing faster?? alan dixon Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 Just sold my car to a guy from Germany, he brought cash as i told him that was the only way i would accept payment, he was happy with that, and came with a trailer to take the car back with him, didn't even test drive it. l also had interest from France and Belgium, and i only advertised it on Pistonheads. Nikko2 Posted October 18, 2010 Author Posted October 18, 2010 Thanks for the responses. The buyer arrived on Friday from Germany and collected the car. I took him and the cash GBP to the bank before releasing the car. All went smooth FM. Now we have to decide what will replace it. Quote
sailing Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 You do not export the vehicle. You give him the V5C document signed and write to the DLVA informing them you have sold the car to the person and his address. It is his job to export the car, all you have done is sold the car to a bloke from abroad. If you export the car it is still technically yours but has been sent abroad. Only did it myself last month. The buyer is normally keen to check the engine number and chassis number match the V5c other wise it gives them difficulty getting the vehicle register and MOTd. Agree with the cash exchange taking place in the bank bank to ensure no dodgy money. Quote
Nikko2 Posted October 18, 2010 Author Posted October 18, 2010 Engine and chassis numbers were interesting. I couldnt find the number anywhere on the engine. Gawd only knows where it is but where you think it would was just blank. The chassis number was also confusing as the numbers on the chassis and chassis plate are different than on the V5 Car says ZEI22xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx V5 says ZE122xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Google seems to suggest that DVLA dont use I's and O's just 1's and 0's somebody mustnt have told Westfield in the mid 90's. Had the car for 7 years and never noticed that. Nor have any of the MOT testers or I suspect any of the other previous owners. Quote
KerryS Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 My car has just been sold to Spain and the process seemed to go OK except the guy contracted some cowboys with a trailer to collect the car and take it to Malaga where it is now creating lots of interest. As you say, DVLA don't have letter i in VIN numbers; had same issues at first MOT. Quote
