LSD Ramp Angle

Having got my 7" Sierra 3.6 Diff from Westfield, I want to fit a LSD before installing it into the build.

My knowledge is a little vague on the ramp angle however.

I get the more the diff limits slippage, the more the car will tend to go straight or understeer - up to a point. On the power side, if enough torque is applied to spin both wheels, the car will snap into oversteer.

So you choose an amount of lock to add on the Coast side and the Power side with what i understand the higher number to be a lesser amount of lock.

So I’d understand -

45/90 will only apply lock under power

45/45 will apply similar lock under power and coasting

50/75 will lock quite a lot during power but less during coasting

Although what I require ? no idea. Will mainly be road use with the occasional track day. I’m sure many of you will have a better understanding than me. (no explanation to simple )

:D

what do you suggest?

I'd fit the std ford visc pack to your diff.

Std ford lsd or if you have the cash a quaife atb ???

dont go down the plated diff route as they are noisy and if not set -up correctly you will suffer from underster followed by massive snap oversteer ???  ???

I run a TranX plate diff in mine. It has 45/90 ramp angles with lightweight preload.

The car handles very neutrally with this setup but handling is also a combination of geometry, spring & shock settings, tyre pressure and tyres.

The big advantage with the plate LSD is that if you pick a wheel up you will still have drive whereas a torque biasing unit such as a quaife only drives whilst both wheels are in contact with the road.

The ATB is more progressive and softer that a plate type but the Tranx is not a agressive lsd with the settings that I am running.

Yes you will get some clatter on slow speed manoevering but even this can be lessen by the addition of an anti clatter additive available from your local Jeep dealer.
