Paul Hurdsfield - Joint Manchester AO Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 Just walk round and look at the price of everything Then go home feeling all smug Quote
Steven Thorne Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 I got talked into seeing Billy Elliott last year and really enjoyed it even though a musical was the last thing I wanted to see. Quote

Captain Colonial Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 Have you tried the echo in the reading room of the British Museum? It's fab! All brothels in London display a blue lamp. When getting on to a tube train, it is customary to shake hands with all the passengers. If driving in London, ignore all left and right road signs, these are merely political party advertisements. You must assist your chambermaid each morning by hanging your mattress out the window. HTH! Quote
Cleggy the Spyder Man Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 if it was me and I had not done them before: Perhaps use Covent garden as a central location then go out from there covent garden - nice atmosphere with street entertainers and loads of cafe bars and restaurents etc and you are right in the thick of the theatre area too - worth leaving till the evening when you do the show of your choice You also have pineapple studios nearby - very much your sort of thing I have been told and stringfellows too - might be worth a walk buy at least see if you can spot any stars or footy players leicester square has a nice vibe - London eye not that exiting but nice to do again especially at night - bit more romantic with less kids pratting about Imax theatre is always worth seeing what is on to experiance the very best in film and sound Really if you stick to this patch you can walk to the Palace, downing street, soho, china town, trafalgar square, madamme taussauds (spelling) etc etc Driving is not too bad at the weekends I have found so you may like to put the obvious locations into your sat nav and give yourself a guided tour of the city - the bus tours are very expensive (enough to put me off anyway) just be aware you may have to sell the CSR to afford fuel for the journey home Quote
Blatman Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 Seeing a show and pre / post dinner chow will cover Saturday evening and make a mess of your wallet, although for the more popular shows it may have been advisable to have booked tickets before now. Still, get your game face on, hit the internet and check seating plans and buy tickets NOW to avoid dissapointment. What about Saturday day time after you've "woken the Mrs up" but still 10 hours before show time? How will you be filling the day? Quote
davidgh Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 Café des Amis 11-14 Hanover Place London, uk WC2E 9JP 020 7379 3444 (Covent Garden) is offering half price food and a free bottle of wine (gods know what quality) -- subject to conditions (?) You have to ring to book and quote "Sept". Not a recommendation, though I have eaten there. www.cafedesamis.co.uk Quote

Cleggy the Spyder Man Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 we always eat here - Clos Maggiore just off Covent garden TBH I dont know why You can expect to gawp in dissapoinment when you clock the size of your main You can expect to see frois gras on the menu which is disgraceful IMO You can also expect to feel slightly out of place and inferior to the toffs sitting around you - the wine helps here You can also expect to see a variety of tweed clothing, codruroy trousers, jumpers draped casually over shoulders generally with patches on the shoulders or elbows, brown brogue shoes and Gucci glasses pivotting on some old tarts head whilst you are sitting there in your Kappa tracksuit, gold chain and nike trainers looking totally respendant You can also expect to part with at least £120 with a couple of bottles of their cheapest wine But hey that is where we first went when we went to the smoke in those heady days of love so it is a bit of a tradition But they fill your wines glass up every 5 minutes which is bearly enough to keep up with my consumption Dunno why I shared this information - personally I would be happy with a kebab Quote
a4gom Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 We saw lion king the other week (wifes choice), tbh it was quite good. War Horse and or 39 steps would have been my choice. Pre show we ate at Sophies Steakhouse on the corner of Wellington St and Tavistock St we had the £10 pre show deal, glass of wine and a main and the steak was spot on. In the day if I'm around Covent Garden we use the White Lion, does good food and not bad beer for reasonable money. Quote
