oilman Posted February 4, 2003 Posted February 4, 2003 Tonight I managed to get the missus to help me in the garage with mounting the pillars and the screen. However we just can't seem to hold the whole assembly stable enough to get the holes marked out. Anybody have any good tips to make this job just that bit easier? Quote
sedsy Posted February 4, 2003 Posted February 4, 2003 Well i did mine with my Dad (he can be of use sometimes) first i clamped the scuttle down into position then masked it all up, then i marked the points for the front bottom corner of the pillars (mine are rounded off so i drew the points onto the tape) my pillars fitted well onto the side of the scuttle which made me confident that they were near correct position. Then i drilled the single hole on both sides of the car and loosley attached the pillars with one bolt each side, then i made a small template the same thicknes as the window frame to use for the measurement from the chasis cross member (this was used on both sides) both sides were drawn around at the correct angle. Then using a second person we offered the window inbetween the posts and line up the pillars with the pencil outlines, plenty of eying up now just incase there is an obvious error, when happy that things looked correct i drilled the two remaining holes, repositioned the screen and pinched up the four pillar bolts, checked measurements again and bobs yer uncle. Hope this helps and if anyone can see a mistake please tell us. Quote
oilman Posted February 5, 2003 Author Posted February 5, 2003 As I suspected, The pillar appeared to sit well with the body so I know I wasn't a mile out. I suspect another set of hand will make the job v easy. cheers Quote
Paul Helsby Posted February 7, 2003 Posted February 7, 2003 Use a wooden baton with a notch cut at both ends, one end sits on the rear cross member, the notch at the other end sits on the top edge of the windscreen. Use the measurement in the build manual for the correct distance between notches. This sets the correct angle of the windscreen once you have loosely fitted the bottom fixings of the pillars as per the advice in the previous post Alternatively fit an aero screen Quote
