stevemiller Posted February 4, 2003 Posted February 4, 2003 I ordered a variety of Samco hoses from Demon Thieves on the 14th Jan....... they very promptly took my £395 - when I chased the order a week later they told me that all items were on back order. I queried why they had taken the money and asked for it to be credited for the time being and was told that this would not be worth while as the goods would probably be in a couple of day. I phoned today to chase the delivery again and was now told that the goods will not be expected until March. It will obviously give me great pleasure to cancel this order but I think that the problem is at Samco's end. Can anyone suggest an alternative manufacter/supplier for bespoke coolant hoses.? DAVE O Posted February 4, 2003 Posted February 4, 2003 Steve, What car/engine are the hoses intended for? What is the car going to be used for road/trackdays/racing? £395 seems a bit steep for hoses for a westfield esp if it's just going to be used on the road. I'd take this delay as an opportunity to cancel the order and then shop around. You car get samco hoses from other retailers cheaper. Dave O Quote
stevemiller Posted February 4, 2003 Author Posted February 4, 2003 Its a Megabusa using a TTS sump so I've had to use an electric water pump. The bits supplied with the kit are now useless. I will be using the car for trackdays and racing. In fairness the £395 did include over braid and pipe finishers etc. Regards Steve Quote
wilksy Posted February 4, 2003 Posted February 4, 2003 Only yesterday did I have the same conversation with the great Demon Theives - they only had one 45 degree bend in stock out of a multitude of Samco hoses I required. Then I spoken to Burtons who not only had everything I needed except straight reducers but were cheaper. Try them. Quote
Rteyp Posted February 4, 2003 Posted February 4, 2003 Sounds promising - Burtons are in Romford / Ilford ? Could be a trip out on Saturday then Steve ? John PS - Can't wait until March !! Quote
stevemiller Posted February 4, 2003 Author Posted February 4, 2003 Can't wait untill Saturday had a word with the boss and will try to get it sorted tomorrow. Electrics now working . Walk across the road and show me how you do the picture thing. Steve Quote
wilksy Posted February 4, 2003 Posted February 4, 2003 Yeah, Burtons are on the A12 about 2 miles from the A406, watch out for traffic jams - there digging up the A406 just past the M11 junction only took me about a hour to do 3 miles yesterday. Best to phone them first to check stock 020 8554 2281 Quote
Rteyp Posted February 4, 2003 Posted February 4, 2003 Thanks Wilksy I think I'll find a back way there if it all checks out. Steve - bit late to walk over and show you the picture thingy, I'll do it tomorrow for you. John Quote
markg Posted February 5, 2003 Posted February 5, 2003 might be useful to post what price you get compared to demon thieves? Quote
duncan Posted February 5, 2003 Posted February 5, 2003 If you want an alternative to Samco try http://www.thhs.co.uk These guys supply the bus and coach industry and are somewhat cheaper than Samco. Doesn't look so pretty (the braid is visible on the outside) and hoses are a bit thicker (3 ply) but the saving is worthwhile. They also claim to do bespoke shapes at a reasonable price. Duncan Quote
wilksy Posted February 5, 2003 Posted February 5, 2003 I actually get a good discount at Burtons, but to put it into perspective the cost of my hoses from Demon Theives would have been £136.00plus VAT my cost from Burtons less the 2 straight reducers they could not supply was £88.00 INC VAT. Quote
Joost Posted February 5, 2003 Posted February 5, 2003 Or this one. It's often used on C@terhams! And it's cheaper than Samco. Highbury Hose Ltd Unit 6, Viking Business Centre Woodville Swadlincote DE11 7EH Derbyshire (UK) Tel: +44-1283 217750 Fax: +44-1283 217754 Quote
stevemiller Posted February 5, 2003 Author Posted February 5, 2003 Went to Burtons today and managed to get hold of everything I need much cheaper (approx 30%) than Demon Thieves! The straight reducers which were out of stock I replaced with copper yorkshire reducing sockets used as inserts - seems to work a treat. I think I much prefer to deal with someone face to face over a counter than mail order or internet. Steve P.S. Should now be able to attempt to start the engine for the first time this weeked - fingers crossed.... Quote
