POC Posted January 25, 2003 Posted January 25, 2003 Im fitting one of these over the next week or so, am curious where the rear stays fit, I had the box out the back of the car today and couldnt see where they will mount.... Anyone got any pics to help? Also, do you have any pics of where the eyehoops for harnesses fit? Cheers Paul Quote
Mark Stanton Posted January 25, 2003 Posted January 25, 2003 I got some piccies and I know where the harnesses fit as well so na na na na na na na na na na and I joined the WSCC Quote
POC Posted January 25, 2003 Author Posted January 25, 2003 one word - git 4 point or 3 point harnesses? PLEASE tell me where they fix Quote
Mark Stanton Posted January 25, 2003 Posted January 25, 2003 You called Only if you promise to join Right behind your seat you'll see a cross member to the chassis about neck height when seated - there should be some threaded tube lugs welded in place - if you see two behind each seat then you need a 4 point harness If you find just one lug central to seat then its a 3 point harness - the required screw in fixing rings should come with your belts IMHO 3 point are just as good as 4 for road and track use and 3 point are accepted at hills and sprints by the MSA Your mounts for RAC type roll bar - bolts in where your existing bar does to the top plate - remove your bootbox and you should see some U shaped brackets with holes for bolts welded to the two rear stays coming from the back up by your seats down to the rear cross member under the petrol tank - thats where your rear stays bolt through. That'll be 50 guineas please or your membership paid Quote
POC Posted January 25, 2003 Author Posted January 25, 2003 ok, ok i promise! there should be some threaded tube lugs welded in place Er nope, nothing but the fat single ones for the 3 point standard braces.... I can see whats coming, let me guess, something along the lines of call westfield, order the mounts and get em welded on? crap My roll bar was fitted with one fat bolt threaded up into the bottom, should there be additional holes in that plate? I also didnt see any mounting points down next to the tank... should the lready be there or do I bolt one mounts that come with the bar? My car is a factory ZEi220, type approved body work... will everything be the same as a std wide body? Cheers mate Paul Quote
POC Posted January 25, 2003 Author Posted January 25, 2003 goodness me why oh why is NOTHING ever easy? So this week I wanted to fit an RAC rollbar - I cant because I dont have the lower mountings and i dont have the holes in the upper mounting plate (I know thats relativley easy to resolve) I also wanted to fit harnesses - I cant because i dont have the upper mountings perfect...... I have new wheels coming on sat, I wonder if it'll turn out that I have a 3 stud hub like a saxo. Im almost sure nothing can go wrong with having a custom exhaust made..... can it? Im annoyed now, bl**** cars, bl**** rollbars, bl**** seatbelts, no bl**** holes, no bl**** mounts, bl**** great fun though I wonder what else they left off the car when they built it... my legs get tired when pedaling it, i think they may have left the engine out? Quote
Mark Stanton Posted January 25, 2003 Posted January 25, 2003 Was it something I said Wot offset on yer new wheels Check it Im almost sure nothing can go wrong with having a custom exhaust made..... can it? If it's measured up fabricated and fitted insitu by the specialists - possibly not Quote
POC Posted January 25, 2003 Author Posted January 25, 2003 lol nah nothing you said mate, just pointing out my inept ability to purchase a car with all the right bits on it Yup check the offset on the new wheels (ET13), checked the sizes, checked the tyres, checked that they were fitted to an identical car to mine..... something will still go wrong though! I shall pop the car to the fabricators to have the exhaust made this week, im sure i will get a call along the lines of..... "I'm sorry mr O'Connor we appear to have blown it up, would you like the parts back?" Quote
POC Posted January 28, 2003 Author Posted January 28, 2003 gonna bump this to the top as I still need photos of the mounts for the harnesses and the RAC rear stays I have the parts coming from the factory over the next few days so welding should commence this weekend A beer goes to anyone that can be arsed to wander out to the garage, dismantel their car and take some snaps for me! Cheers Paul Quote
JimNoble Posted January 30, 2003 Posted January 30, 2003 These might help: http://www.black-metallic.com/Westfie....e2.html http://www.black-metallic.com/Westfie....015.jpg Can't find anything useful for the harness mounts though I'm afraid - might be something on my site with them fitted though: http://www.black-metallic.com/Westfield/ Jim Quote
Ian Podmore Posted January 31, 2003 Posted January 31, 2003 The harness mounts are in Jim's picture http://www.black-metallic.com/Westfie....e2.html You can see the two eye bolts sticking up behind the drivers seat. They are screwed into the threaded pieces on the cross member. Jim has also got the inertia mounts like you have POC. I had to grind mine off as Westfield had fitted both to the chassis. Quote
POC Posted February 3, 2003 Author Posted February 3, 2003 Thanks for all the advice guys, the welding was sposed to be done yesterday, but as I expected the courier failed to deliver the parts on time. To this date I have NEVER had anything turn up on the day it was sposed to! Anyway, I digress..... I am now warming to the idea of chopping the bootbox to fit around the RAC bar. Anyone got any pics laying about? Is this an easy thing to do? Im gonna pop out this evening and get myself a dremmel. TIA (again) Paul Quote
