MT75 or Type 9

Recommended Posts

I was just reading a post on here and someone mentioned that if you have a VX engine you can't have an MT75 box and has to be Type 9, is this true?

I assumed my car had an MT75, what is a simple way to check?

Cheers for your help

Type 9 is slim (about 9" wide just after the bellhousing - hmmm wonder if that's how it was named) MT75 is a fair bit bigger but not sure by how much...... there is a website with pics of them but can't remember where...Dave Andrews site maybe

Select reverse. If it's alongside first, and you have to press the lever downwards (towards the floor) to engage the gate, it's a type 9. If selecting reverse means lifting a collar on the gear lever, and slotting it into where 6th gear would be (ie, south of 5th, IYSWIM) then it's an MT75........

....is it definately a Ford box? The Opel Manta box will fit in as well IIRC.... ???  :0  :)

Careful if it's a manta box. I've got one in a type 9 tunnel and it's as tight as a midges t**t!!

That sounds good then, its a push down and next to first, meaning its a type-9 right?

Does that mean that I can get the ratio's changed in it?

Cheers

Anyone got a number or email address for Phil at R&RT then, or any ideas how much changing the ratios is likely to cost?
