Fitting mirrors to pillars

Has any one got any tips on fitting the wing mirrors to the pillars (yes I do have a windscreen as am not partial to a face full of flies and have very little hair so disturb).

I assume this is an SEI wide body with the standard screen (not the aero one). So I guess you have the black plastic Metro (??) wing mirrors . I seem to remember you need to do a lot of filing to the plastic mirror on the main circumference where it fits to the pillar and the two legs with the pre-cut thread need to be shortened.

Is there a specific problem that you have ?

I ordered some pillars and mirrors for my standard-body car, which unfortunately did not fit the scuttle at all well and ended up being returned. However, whilst I had them, I fitted the mirrors into the pillars without too much difficulty. I offered them up to get an idea of how much of the fixing posts to cut off, then just hacksawed off the excess. Then used self-tappers and and lot of pressure of the screw-driver, and there you have it. Fitted perfectly as well. Shame the pillars didn't...

I am just having a bit of a mare getting the pressure on for the self tappers to adequately bite.  I note the comment that a lot of pressure was applied.  Plus I have cut the pegs a bit short. Back to the addage measure twice and cut once. doh. :durr:

just use a slightly longer, thin, self-tapper. Should still reach perfectly well. But it did need a lot of pressure applied.

Good luck,

MJ.

I used a sandpaper 'flap wheel' on my drill to ream out the socket in the pillar - the mirrors were then a perfect fit ....
