I recall reading somewhere a couple of years ago, that LG made approx 70% of the world's flatscreens, including (obviously) a lot of stuff for other manufacturers......

It has been suggested to me that LG, Samsung and one other company are the only LCD panel anufacturers, so irrespective of the name on the box, you'll have a panel from one of those manufacturers...

True, but it's about the ingredients rather than the chef.  All 3 are capable of producing great stuff, but it depends on the components specified as to the end product, hence the difference in quality and price.

Have a Panasonic 42" and a Samsung 26" in the bedroom.  Satisfied with both, but the Panasonic is a better TV in my opinion in terms of picture quality, sound, and also viewing angle.  You need to be within a 45 degree arc either way from dead on with the Samsung to see the picture perfectly, whereas you can stand practically side-on to the Panasonic and still see it.  The Panasonic was easier to install too.

I always dip into here whenever I go buying elecetronics

Stick with one of the main brands and I doubt whether you would see much difference between the best at that size of screen

My Samsung panels sound like your Panasonic panels. I can be almost at 180 degrees to them and still see the picture, so no issues for me on viewing angles. My mates Sony Bravia though... shocking... 32" of blocky blacks, poor refresh rate and generally a poor viewing experience. Not cheap either...

Exactly.  That's why when buying flat screen TVs, I always get What Hi-Fi magazine and get their opinions, narrow it down and see them in the store from all angles, then go home and buy it online.  Can't stress the viewing angle thing enough, very important!

Are you sure the Panasonic is LCD and not plasma.  They have stuck with plasma technology for their larger TV's which is a much better viewing angle, but you're not going to get it with a £300 budget!
