Glen_I
Hi everyone I have a C20XE which i came across when working at a VX dealership a year ago, the engine came out of a 94 Calibra so i know the engine is ok to run on carbs for bl**** SVA. But........this was a exchange engine which doesnt come with a new number! so there is no means of saying when it was built, Do i go and find a block in the breakers and take number and then write to VX to confirm engine date or has anyone got any other ideas............... Thanks Glen.
Blatman
I wouldn't just "take" a number. Suppose some-one buys that engine, fit's it to a car, and then notifies the DVLC of a change of engine number......... Also, if the engine is out of an insurance write off, I'm sure there would be even more questions asked. What you need is the engine number off the Calibra the block came out of. I'm not sure if the DVLC will provide that sort of info though............ A search of the MIGWeb (Vx owners/cars) bulletin board may find the answer. Glen_I
I thought that would be the reply....b*******! what if a engine was found in a breakers and it was never going to be put on the road again, say there was a hole in the block?? This must sound dodgy! but i am not that sort of person. It seems a shame to give up on it, its been rebuilt now.
scott beeland
Give Jonathan Bell a call at Vauxhall Motors Ltd 01582 42 72 88 or email him at jonathan.bell@vauxhall.co.uk. He will be able to help with identifying/ ageing the engine and can provide documentation for the SVA man. He charges a "standard" vauxhall fee!!! of about £40. This is a small pric e to pay though if it means getting the engine through SVA. Hope this helps

SteveD
glen if you give me a bell i can give you a legit engine number , that wont cause any problems with dvlc/a 01606 836354 07753426976 ( all above board aswell )
brianm
Pedantic I know, but, (I think), it must have been a 93 Calibra, as they went ecocrap from then on Brian.
windy
How does date change the criteria for the SVA? If you have a C20XE (C stands for catalyst) then you'll have to meet the emissions std surely? A 20XE will only need to meet the pre-cat emissions levels. Most bits of the engine (cam caps & any plastic bits) have date stamps ( a rosette with the year in the centre & an arrow pointing to the month) on them so the SVA man will surely notice how old it is anyway? Glen_I
Windy, i thought that if the engine is built before july or august 1995 then it has to meet the 3.5 co% figure and HC have to be below 1200ppm regardless to the engine running with a cat from its original car? But even though its a C20XE because its a recon/exchange engine they dont come with engine code so know one will know.......
Glen_I
Just had a thought about this dilemma............. Correct me if i am wrong, but........ If you have to prove that the engine was built before july 31st 1995 then it had to come out of a M reg car, but i have never seen this engine in a N reg cav, astra or calibra so can anyone tell me different? I am sure that they went to eco-tech early 1995 I just dont bl**** know anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A very confused Glen.
westy
Hi Glen, if you want to make me an offer for one of my engines your welcome to its number, they are both of a calibra and I have all the history off them. Make me an offer I and will do my best to make it cost effective for you....
