DITCH Posted July 30, 2010 Author Posted July 30, 2010 Sure mine was a gliderol insulated type bought off ebay. single width was about 550 quid delivered (automatic ). Fitted it myself... If you can build a car you can fit a garage door! Yeh, but I haven't got 2yrs to fit a garage door.......'' No joking apart, I've been looking on Flee bay and wondered if it was straight forward job. Do you remember the E bay shop you bought from ? Quote
Mark (smokey mow) Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 My henderson plastisol galv steel roller door (not electric) was very easy to fit and only took a morning for two of us. I bought it from my local garage door place, made to the correct width and was only £387+vat for a 2.6m width. The trickiest bit of fitting was actually lifting the door onto the wall brackets, the rest of it was no more difficult than hanging a shelf. Quote
wilsonch Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Will have a look see if i can find supplier. It really is easy. An extruded ally channel either side then the 'roller assembly' simple slots into the top. A few 2" screws here and there and job done. It takes longer to fit the electrics and set up the limit switches. The only thing to be wary of is how square your floor is to your walls, this can cause set up problems when fitting. chirs Quote

Tigger Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 How secure are these Roller Doors, never even thought about one before seeing this post? Tiggs Quote
wilsonch Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Touch wood I haven’t needed the 5 year guarantee...yet. r.e. security. Firstly they don’t have any visible locks for scum to tamper with. To stop the door being forced up they have an 'elbow type' mechanism that joins the door slats to the motorised roller. When it rolls down to the bottom the 'elbow' is forced the wrong way, so if you try and push the door up it is pushing against the locked elbow hence it wont' push up. Quite a simple idea really. If you go here http://www.rollerdoors.co.uk/insulated-roller-door-faq.php rhs of the page "insulated roller doors" there's an installatiopn guide. Quote
DITCH Posted August 3, 2010 Author Posted August 3, 2010 Hi Chaps, Thanks for all reply's, to this thread, I have had a look at above site Rollerdoors.com at the Gliderol door system, also I got another PM, with a Company called Rollerdor, that suppy a roller door with insulated slats, which is a different type of roller door than the Gliderol type....... "Boring I know"!!!!! The price is also a big factor as always, but to : supply and fit an Insulated security electrically operated Roller door for a single garage, inc fitting and removal of all rubbish inc old door £699. Which when you work it out, by the time you have removed the old one and p****d about all day fitting it.... well do the math... ain't worth messing about with. I will know how good they are, in about 2wks, They do come highly recommended, but the proof is in pudding ? Will let you know. '' Ditch. Quote
Lurksalot Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 supply and fit an Insulated security electrically operated Roller door for a single garage, inc fitting and removal of all rubbish inc old door £699. Yeah OK What level of insulation, what level of security, what material , what servicing , warranty , remote control , (rolling code) infra red beam break, leading edge safety features, courtesy lights ? While the devil is in the detail , I fear the deal is in the cost . I hope it all works out for you but I fear the quality of what you get, may not necessarily be what you are expecting , but will no-doubt be suitably accxeptable due to the give away price. And I hope that the rest of us are not subsidising your purchase because your contractor does not pay his bills. Nothing implied at all , but it does happen Quote
housebeautician Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 Trouble is it dont matter who the firm is because the guarantee is not worth the paper its written on anyway. If its a big company still trading, its got more get outs than sultanas in a bread pudding. I do take your point Lurksalot but it depends on your view of cheap. Looking at the materials, the motor etc they are of a reasonable quality in my eyes for the price. Also the fact that just because something is twice the price it dont mean its twice the quality, most of the time its a rip off. But as you say you get what you pay for. Quote
housebeautician Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 But still, let me assure you, that you and nobody else will be picking up the bill for my job.... Nor mine! Quote
DITCH Posted August 4, 2010 Author Posted August 4, 2010 " its got more get outs than sultanas in a bread pudding." " Proof is in the pudding"!!!!!! Tony..... It all comes back down to food in the end Ahhhhhh.... LOL....'''''' Ditch '' Quote
