lippydave Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 Definitely do it.... It seems really lazy but they are sooo convenient.... been for a thrash in the Westie and it's p*****g down, a plip of the sender lets you drive straight into the dry, no faffing undoing harnesses etc.. Great on a motorbike too, 'especially if you've been a bit err, ahem, err, over enthusiastic on your ride home and want to get the bike in the garage quickly to avoid any following ahem attention... The one on our house was fitted by the in-laws when they lived here, but has been and is superb, hassle free for the last 8 yrs, will check make when I run from the fuzz again.....errr, I mean when I get home later... DITCH Posted July 30, 2010 Author Posted July 30, 2010 Yep, can't agree more.... Got back from a blat, P**s'n down, last thing on my mind is to get out and mess about with a cantankerous old mechanism... "The door I mean" !!!!!! '' Not that brave....... Ditch Quote
Lurksalot Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 There are a couple of choices you can make witrh rollers. single skin plastisol galv steel . Rolls down but is effectively 1 big piece. it needs about 600mm clearance at the head, must be fitted behind the opening , provides little insulation but is relatively cheap. Aluminium slatted type , with multiple aluminium insulated slats, only needs 300mm headromm , better motors and electronics , more choice of colours, leading edge safety devices, tidier job but pricier. for single doors expect to pay about £900 steel line and 1800 for Aluminium fitted and warrantied. supply only prbably 600 and 1200 respectively HTH Quote

John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 Mine is a Gliderol brand which I bought brand new from a company on ebay about 3 years ago. I didnt go for the elecrtic addon option due to funds being low at the time but they can be added after the event if required. I'm really pleased with mine and it was simple to fit. However, You do need strong anchor points for the mounting brackets to mount onto Do a search on ebay for Gliderol - loads come up from different sellers - fill yer boots! Quote

DITCH Posted July 30, 2010 Author Posted July 30, 2010 Hi John, Had another search, looked at Gliderol, not cheap, but quality product. Living in the Leicestershire area, ideally wanted a recommendation of a local tradesman who had done a good job at the right price ! But thanks guy's, to everyone who has responded. Ditch. Quote
John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 My Gliderol was around £200 delivered back in Aug 2006 Quote
s2rrr Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 My doors are fitted with Chamberlain systems from Screwfix , not sure if they still do them as they were quite pricey but the Yanks know about electric doors. They have been, so far, very reliable, now tempting fate of course. Bob Quote
wilsonch Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 Sure mine was a gliderol insulated type bought off ebay. single width was about 550 quid delivered (automatic ). Fitted it myself... If you can build a car you can fit a garage door! Quote
