Captain Colonial Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 Reminds me of a local pub where the woodentops used to stake out the car park waiting for people to come out, hop in their cars to drive home, and then nick them for suspected DUI. People pretty quickly got the hint and rightly stopped driving under the influence at all. Despite this and not catching anyone for months, the coppers still staked the place out at least twice a week. One evening at chucking out time, a regular came staggering out to the car, dropped his keys a few times getting in, finally belted up and started the car and drove off after what seemed an eternity. Police thought they'd struck gold and tugged him about a mile down the road, despite no problems with his driving. Usual routine, got the breathalyser out and... blew green. Stunned, the officer said it was impossible, just out of the pub, staggering, dropped your keys, etc, how did you blow green? Driver said "Because tonight, I'm the designated decoy!". Look of surprise on copper's face, then realisation as he runs back to the car and drives back the pub, where the car park was now empty! OK, I don't entirely approve, but funny stuff anyway, and the coppers went and staked out a different pub after that. Quote
nikpro Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 Sounds like usual filth activity - nothing useful to do with their time in between doughnut breaks and filling in overtime slips - God forbid they got involved with catching criminals......... One day in the near future when they decide to take industrial action you may appreciate what the Police actually do in this country to keep law and order Seems like you are criticising them for doing their job and then criticising them for not doing their jobs - how are they supposed to win - turn a blind eye to some parts of the law that suit you and not others when it takes your whim?? (Think you've been reading too many motorcycle magazines!) Quote
Cleggy the Spyder Man Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 just spotted a convertible beemer going down the road with a complete front bumper of presumably a beemer across the back seats - being held by some chap holding onto it for dear life - I never cease to be amazed never a copper around when you want one Quote

So when your house is turned over, a relative is severely beaten up one Saturday night, someone you know has been raped, you will not bother ringing the Police because you do not like them. Get a life. Quote
BEN99W Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 Run ins with the boys in blue are an occupational hazard as a motoring journo (I used to be one).Your friends obviously missed the hints to invite the officers in question to participate in the road test... Quote
Barry Ashcroft Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 On Wednesday I was following a car pulling a trailer with 2 motorcycles on it down the M4 in the fast lane doing about 75mph right behind me was an unmarked plod as I has just over taken him, I pulled into the middle lane expecting said plod to pull the car driver over but nothing, he folllowed him for about 3 miles then pulled of at the next junction leaving car towing a trailer in the fast lane doing 70+ Quote
jerryhzx12 Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 So when your house is turned over, a relative is severely beaten up one Saturday night, someone you know has been raped, you will not bother ringing the Police because you do not like them. Get a life. When my wife was attacked in a pub, defended herself and pushed the assailant away, who ended upwith a minor scratch, she got a caution and the attacker got nothing, despite video evidence. The guy who ran me off my motorbike by driving out of a left hand junction onto a main road nearly taking off my left foot, in his untaxed car, and ending my motorcycling and running pastimes, got away with a driver improvement course, as according to both a serving officer with the force and an experienced prosecuting solicitor, this was a cheap option to clear up the incident. When my car was broken into and the tax disc stolen, the only police action was to tell me I could be prosecuted for driving without a tax disc displayed... You may understand my lack of respect for the boys in blue. As has been observed elswhere in this thread, we are all entitled to our opinions - like 'em or not. Quote
tex Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 gotta admit iv got very little faith in their abilities, after being burgled 3 times they done nowt and even told me they wernt going to either! My son was held up at knife point by someone who done half dozen people same night and they wont even tell me what punishment he got! Quote
Bob Green Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 we are all entitled to our opinions - like 'em or not. Totally agree. We live in a democracy to which I am thankful for. Clearly you have had issues with the Services that have not been resolved to your satisfaction. Is it that the Services that have let you down or Governments making cutbacks and creating the “Nanny State” over the years. Quote

Combination of factors I guess - although the "cutbacks" thing always seems an excuse to cover up poor managment and performance at all levels...Agree entirely on the anny state bit ! Quote
bhouse Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 One of the problems is that the police need to earn the public's respect. And sometimes they signally fail to do that. Take a look at what they've been up to in Gwent: BBC news website. Quote

The above just simply can not be true! To receive a Caution you must admit to guilt or the matter would be taken to court - if the video evidence showed your wife to be innocent then she would not have been given a Caution. Your Wife must have been shown to be the guilty Party on the Video, admitted to committing the offence and also accepted the Caution - she wasn't forced to sign the piece of paper. With the incident in Gwent nobody knows what happened prior to this and how many peoples lives were endangered. the Police will never pass comment on an incident until the investigation is complete. You can make 30 seconds of any media look as biased as you want. Quote

You can make 30 seconds of any media look as biased as you want. a 70 year old bloke (with a heart condition) is pulled over and then all hell brakes loose Their lucky they didn't blind him the way his door glass was being smashed The video showed that he wasn't exactly all over the road at 100 mph trying to avoid capture There'll be an investigation and somebody will have their wrists slapped and that will be it... But yes 30 sec's of media can make it look biased Quote

I'm occasionally guilty of making sweeping and judgemental assumptions when I'm maybe don't have all the facts. Seems we have something in common. Without going into much detail, we didn't report the incident, the original assailant did. The police suggested easiest route was to take the caution....they obviously needed a "result", and didn't seem interested in further viewing the video, especially as my wife had no injury. Ii is in fact a bit more complicated than this, but I do not intend to go into this on this site... Quote
