JeffC Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 me and bob blagged a free trackday today at croft , I took Ceaser along and we got the chance to drive a Lotus 11 and 997 Porsche in anger was spitting on rain when was out in ceaser this morning which was interesting trying to find the level of grip when parts of the circuit was bone dry and others not but dried up in the afternoon, croft are having a nightmare with noise issues were only allowed 88db today so had to de clutch past the meter every lap Lotus eleven was fantastic much better than any elise/exige Ive ever driven. high speed corners it was glued and the brakes were phenominal have to say I got out of with a much higher opinion than when i got in it 997 pork was impressive too with decent handling, bob said the 996 turbo 4wd was poor compared to it though. I didnt rate his 330d on circuit, brakes lasted just over 1 lap Quote
Cleggy the Spyder Man Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 and this is why you should never buy a second hand 911 - all been thrashed within an inch of their lives how did yours compare to the 911's around the track as a whole? Quote
JeffC Posted July 16, 2010 Author Posted July 16, 2010 how did yours compare to the 911's around the track as a whole? mine was about 10-15seconds a lap quicker than the 911s that were on track and strangley Bob much prefered the 2wd 997 n/a 3.8s than the 4wd Turbo said the turbo understeered everywhere have to say I too was impressed with the feel of the 997 even when bob was driving it Quote
samcooke Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 QUOTE and this is why you should never buy a second hand 911 - all been thrashed within an inch of their lives Oi! The 996 turbo is a nice comfy road car, but track weapon it ain't. The 997 S is a little more interesting, but what you really need is what's on my drive at the mo : Gotta say though, subjectively it doesn't feel as quick as my R1 Fury did. Until it gets to 120... Blatman Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 Exciting in a good way, or exciting in the old 911 backwards in to a hedge way? Quote

Matt Seabrook Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 I have had a passenger ride in a Lotus 2-11 and must agree a fantastic handling car just needs another 50bhp that said I loved it. Quote
Barry Ashcroft Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 Glad your trackday went better than mine today At least there are some truely amazing people in the club who will help out no matter what you ask of them Quote
samcooke Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 Exciting in a good way, or exciting in the old 911 backwards in to a hedge way? You can get in a 3 and drive it very quickly very near the limit within hours. They're just so accessible. A 2 has more power [torque] than grip in a lot of circumstances so takes effort and respect to drive quickly, if you jump in with heavy boots it might get messy. IMHO that makes the 2 much more rewarding for someone who enjoys the satisfaction of car control as well as the thrill of speed - like a Westfield driver. Or to put it more simply - the 2 is much faster. Quote
Blatman Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 And yes, the reason why we like Westfields explained quite nicely *Heads for Autotrader to look at prices* And no Sam, I haven't forgotten Quote
