Labrat Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 Yes! Finally finished the build. I have been dreading this for ages (I put a deposit on the kit 8 years and 2 days ago- so literally ages!), and when we got there it was really good, dare I say it was even enjoyable. The test was in Birmingham, and Dave who carried out the test was a really great guy. He went through everything carefully and at the end of each section of the test, pretty much said 'that's good, can't fault it'. The only thing we had to add during the test was a bit of self adhesive foam to the outer edge of the seats for external radii. I can't thank Simon enough for trailering the car around over the last few weeks, and for all the work he has done as well. Its a good thing he trailered it to Birmingham this morning as the heavens opened on the M42. Just got to wait for the DVLA now as the lady who checks the kit cars in Birmingham was on leave today, but hopefully it is just a few more days before I can drive it. Thanks to everyone who has offered help, advice and parts over the years. Luke. Quote
Rednop1 Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 dave at birmingham is a great guy tested mine about two months ago knows what to look out for as he tests all the factory cars .dealing with the dvla is a different ball game.took mine to shrewsbury as i'd hear some bad reports about birmingham but i think there all hard work but i didn't have to take the car for them to look as they told me the rules had changed but i think it just depends which way the winds blowing but it still took them 3 week for them to complete my paperwork and send me my tax disc they will not rush Quote
Tim Reid Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 Great news I look forward to seeing it at the next Thame Valley event... maybe we should bring cake! So.... upgrades Quote
Labrat Posted July 15, 2010 Author Posted July 15, 2010 They did said the rules had changed at DVLA Birmingham, but then proceeded to follow the old system as they weren't sure how the new one worked!? The tricky bit will be getting in touch to chase them as they don't have direct phone numbers, or at least they don't give them out. Hmmm... upgrades... better wait and see how much money is left after we buy the house we have just made an offer on. Soon have my own garage as well as the car to go in it. Quote
adamnreeves Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 Luke, This is really good news. There's a collection of SEiGHTs in Oxfordshire now. Hope you have a better time with DLVA than I did. You going for a 10-plate? If so if you do not have a certificate of newness make sure you fill out V627/1 and also make sure that they give the the bit of paper that you acknowledge further that they are all new parts. Also check with them that the DVLA office has provision for a trailer, I know it's obvious but this introduced a 2 week delay for me because they booked me into an office where trailers are not catered for, yes I know it should be obvious to them! Just read you might be moving, not of the Oxfordshire area, noooo. Quote

Bob Green Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 I put a deposit on the kit 8 years and 2 days ago I cannot understand why you rushed the build, frankly. Quote
simon besant Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 Great news I look forward to seeing it at the next Thame Valley event... maybe we should bring cake! So.... upgrades cake!!!!!!! BIG BEER!!!!! Upgrades yep he will get the bug. Car felt pretty good at 90mph ( of course on a private road for legal reasons ) luke had not done the bolt up on the brakes and the exhaust bolts flew out the back. but that just made the test drive more exciting worth the trip to birmingham to see his face when it passed shame i am on holiday for the next thames valley meet when it should make its first apperance. pistonbroke 2 Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 Well done Luke. Another SEight on board. Nice colour to. Quote
Steven Thorne Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 Well done Luke, don't let Simon talk you into to many upgrades I'm not sure we could cope with 2 fire breathing V8's Quote
Steven (WE51STE) Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 Congratulations on completing the build. Its makes my 5 years build look like a sprint. The easy bits are now over build / IVA. The hard bit is the registration the most frustrating part of the whole process. It took me nearly a month to do it at Birmingham I'm sure you will enjoy the driving. Be safe, Steve Quote
Labrat Posted July 16, 2010 Author Posted July 16, 2010 Thanks for all the comments. I am beginning to think I dropped a clanger by going to DVLA Birmingham... but then Oxford seem poor too so I will just have to be patient. I think cake sounds like a great idea. Not sure how well cake and beer will go together though Adam it is OK we are buying in Oxford, so not moving away, just putting down roots. On loose bolts... it could have been worse but we got away with it. Quote
