stewart pickles Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 thinking about getting one and just using the westie as a track car or may even sell it. anyone had/got one? whats service cost's etc Quote
Tigger Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 Always thought the SLK was bit of a Hairdressers car. The AMG would be a rich hairdresser but one non the less! Tiggs Quote
samcooke Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 Drive before you buy - it's difficult to describe but they kind of float and bob about on the road and never feel planted. Get a 911 (obviously). Quote

Vinny's Westie Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 Bought one when they came out, awesome sound, but nothing but problems with the first. Mercs changed it for a year newer model and it is pretty awesome, will eat most other cars but is a little woolly at times. Taken it on a track day, very quick, will leave most things in a straight lines but the corners are different but it does weigh in at 1.5tonnes. Power delivery is pretty immense, 4th to 5th at around 110 and pulls like it is in second gear, on full chat there is nothing better, as for a Porsche well they have no soul. Best handling Merc of recent times, maybe a bit of an image issue, but a Porsche is just some loved up prats car that has no sound or no soul. I had mine for 4 years and it still is a pretty damn fine car, drive it like a hairdresser or drive like a man possessed, it is pretty good fun.....................but it is no Westfield. As for servicing, pre July 06 have either mileage or 2 years, after July 06 they all go on yearly servicing, as for costs it has been the cheapest car to service, £150 for the first service, and £150 for the second, everything included at the stealers as well. Nothing gone wrong with mine to date (famous last words), done just short of 30,000 miles. Fuel economy is average of 21.4, driven locally or shortish runs, on a trip it will do 26-27 and if you are sensible you can get 33....... not bad Quote

Vinny's Westie Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 Pre July 06 Merc AMG are just the same as ordinary models. Either a service around every 10,000 miles, usually this will go to around 11-12000 depending on your driving style or if you don't do that much mileage it needs doing every 2 years, after 23 months it counts down the days to service and discards the mileage element left (unless the mileage bit comes first). Post July 06, it is set at the same 10,000 miles which may alter depending on your driving style but will need a service every year as the countdown will take place after 11 months, this is the same for all Mercs, the dealers weren't seeing cars every year as not that many people drive more than 10000 a year. There is no servicing every 6 months, unless you do the mileage. HTH Quote
