Yvonne and I went for the first long drive today.  Measham to Hunstanton following the usual route, M1, Leicester ring road, A47 then branch off to Hunstanton.  Christ, was it hot!

Coming back, we went A17, A515 to Bourne then through the back doubles to head home, stopping for a meal and a pint to round the day off.  Two things elevated themselves that made me grin.

Since fitting the Pacet fan and Kenlowe temperature adjuster, given the heat, the temperature never went over 88 degrees (fan cut-in setting) and on a standard fuel tank (not long range) the car achieved 190 miles before I filled up with fuel.  Overall the car returned 41mpg over the 300 mile journey.

I have owned this Westfield for 4.5 years and guess what; I am still as excited driving it now as I was the day I picked it up from Mike Sawdon.

I love my car.   :D  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D

Nice one Bob I have had a Westfield for 12 years and still get a buzz out of driving it and I am far from one of the longest Westfield owners.

Great to hear Bob, I drive my Westie every chance I get. Looking foward to many many years of the same buzz that I get now. Great to hear that you are still the kid with the new toy...

The great (or worst) thing about this car is I have hardly done nothing to it apart from replacing the Gearbox tail shaft oil seal, front Crankshaft oil seal, replaced all brake discs (the rears looked crabby, the fronts had run out), replaced the rubber fuel lines and the Fan (personal preference).  It is a “turn key and go” car.

I remember when I bought it, Yvonne said “I bet you don’t have to do anything with this car” and she was right.  My old car (which I owned for 10+ years) was always in pieces; upgrading, fettling and getting the Pinto engine to 172bhp.

It’s hard to put into words but I do miss the faffing around with the car.  Yes I could catch upgraditis but the car is so reliable (and quick) I don’t feel the need to.  So, these are my thoughts.

I could by another Westfield (not sell the current one) and use that as a plaything but garage space could be a problem.  My mind is swaying to buying an old British motorbike and renovating it, garage space is not a problem.

Has anybody on here renovated an old motorbike?
