Once again I am sat on the hard shoulder waiting for recovery because the xtreme has done another fuel pump when trying to get to france ?

Last time it was at the dartford crossing, this time under the heathrow flightpath :bangshead:

At least I'll get some german comfort with cruise control and a/c.

What the b****y hell would cause a facet pump to fail ? (It was ticking and quite warm). The last one was an interupter type, this one is a solid state (square). I know I won't be fixing it tonight but am curious

When mine went it was one of the 12v connection studs that had sheered , presumably caused by vibration ) I was able to do a heath robinson type roadside repair using PVC electrical insulation tape

It got me to the destination Oulton Park and back to home address , circa 90 miles round trip with no further probs  :t-up:

Do you have a small inline fuel filter fitted before your pump ?? if not, then fit one  ;)  ;) any small debris or petrol crud can build up and knacker the pump  ;)

Is it mounted on rubber bobbins ??? if not get some  ;) solid mounting can kill em  :(

If the motor is running OK,  possibly its a clogged up filter ?

possible pump diaghram split or the rotor loose on the motor shaft

had any dirty fuel in of late ?

Yes to filter  and yes to rubber mounts

Don't  think I've had any dirty fuel. Either way I won't be chancing it again. Just waiting for recovery to drop me off and jump in the tintop.

Will take a look with a fresh pair of eyes when I get back

Swap it for a Westfield

I do hear that the price of scrap stainless is on a par with carbon, let's talk :p

When Roger King did my engine he recommended a Holley pump. I asked why not a Facet and his reply was that everyone he ever fitted failed and, of course, he got the blame.

The Holly is a huge, heavy, pump very low tech, looks like it's been made in a forge. Just what the USA is good at.

Mark's comment may be more than right. In this weather (it's over 30c here) my car will vapour lock if it stops in traffic.

It's fine, drove non stop from here to Calais last week - over 350 miles as long as I keep on the move. It's Ok to stop for fuel but if I get into slow traffic and stop it will not start until it's cooled down - about 3/4 hour.

Just fit a different type. When I had carbs I used one froma VX Cavalier. Never played up at all and plentiful supply from breakers
