Nick PC Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 Thinking of buying a second car for my partner, just checking out insurance costs. Phoned AA who insure her current car and they have said that no claims discount would not apply to second car and that you have to start again. Anyone got any experience of this? Quote
nik9669 Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 True as far as it goes, but you may get an "introductory" discount if there's accident-free company or other car driving history. I've also just had a "price match" quote from A-Plan ( I don't work for them ) getting a discount on my new second car. Not sure exactly how they did it, but saved me £300ish! Quote
Hilts Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 Nick Strictly speaking that's true but a lot of companies offer a second car discount if you insure both cars with them. Some will also allow introductory discount. Try a decent broker or comparison website for best quote. Quote
Nick PC Posted July 7, 2010 Author Posted July 7, 2010 Thanks chaps will have to try options to get reasonable quote, should get her a Westie as they are so cheap to insure Quote

Hammy Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 Was with the AA last year , swapped to the red phone peeps, cheaper. The starting again with no claims is not unusual - check out multicar policies, not sure if you can carry the no claims across if you subsequently change providers, similar to protected no claims policies... As has been said can often get a discount when starting with a second car, try limiting mileage, and using for leasure(?) only -no commuting to from/work. Also might be cheaper in Mrs name with you are a named driver. Quote
