langy Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 Don't know if this has been posted before, but is it true Respect if it is possible Quote
bhouse Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 It's all a bit Leni Riefenstahl... I wonder how good she was with CGI? Quote
carpetstu Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 Clarkson reckons he's buying one . But not until the drop head comes out as he doesn't like the gull wing doors! Quote
Tubs Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 Didn't Top Gear or maybe Fifth Gear do this with a Mini in a drain after Italian Job came out? Tubs Quote
housebeautician Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 I do that every morning in the van thru the hatfield tunnel Quote
Blatman Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 Fake. Who would let firemen stand in the path of the car in the tunnel? Where does he go if the driver decides to abort? The fire crew are standing in the "escape route"... Quote
RedditchJay Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 mmmmmmmmmmm pass........ genuine or not.... Quote
echoz Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 clearly fake imho... cool none the less... the men in black did it better Quote
Pistol Pete Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 How did the driver get in via the gull win doors when it was in the lorry to drive it out? I don't believe half of what I read on internet, I don't believe any videos. Quote
Mark (smokey mow) Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 Deffo a fake, but I was watching this earlier on a 5th Gear re-run which is real. Quote
Blatman Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 Loop the loop will work as centrifugal / centripetal force keeps the car attached to the "road". The Merc driving down the tunnel in a spiral needs to generate just as much centrifugal / centripetal force to keep the car attached to the "road" whilst at the same time moving forwards, so the speed required needs to be higher by an order of magnitude. If his rotation around the tunnel slows too much, he falls off. If the speed drops to much, he falls off. If he hits a fireman on the way in, well, lets not even think about that. And before the inevitable rollercoaster comparison, rollercoasters are held on to the tracks by wheels on the underside of the rails. They could come to a complete stop whilst inverted and not fall off... Quote
Fat Albert Posted July 6, 2010 Posted July 6, 2010 . the manoeuvre is called a barrel roll, correctly executed in an aircraft you can maintain a positive 1G environment throughout... as witnessed by numerous bets (mainly failed) regarding doing one with a full pint of beer standing on top of the panel though technically possible, even Merc are unlikely to risk £150k+ let alone all the associated collateral damage potential in the days of CGI here's one with a smoke trail making the flight (car) path obvious Quote
bhouse Posted July 6, 2010 Posted July 6, 2010 Now the mention of aircraft reminded me of an outstanding pilot called Bob Hoover... Quote
pistonbroke Posted July 6, 2010 Posted July 6, 2010 The word was , in theory , that "ground effects" Grand Prix cars, like the Lotus 88 for e.g. , could have been driven inverted for the whole length of a tunnel Dont think anyone ever tried it out in practise though Quote
