Norman Verona Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 Just a thought. A lot of people who frequent these pages buy Euros at tourist rates. I get mine at commercial rates. Tourist rates will typicaly be 0.03 to 0.05 (3 to 5 cents) below interbank rate. last one cost me 0.0090 below interbank rate. So I thought if enough of you want and we can club together to get the minimum £3000 we could do a bulk buy of money. Quote
pistonbroke 2 Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 Good idea Norm But where all skint over in blighty. Can we do a Bulk Borrow from you ? Quote
Norman Verona Posted July 5, 2010 Author Posted July 5, 2010 No problem, what do you want to borrow? I've got plenty of grass if you want any of that. Quote
Mark Stanton Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 I get commercial rate to much better than tourist rates and only a small amount below inter bank rate and if anyone ever see's adverts saying commission free .... they're the ones that usually give lowest exchange rates e.g. Post Office Natwest are good and for using card abroad Quote
cast iron Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 I max my debit card at a local bank, I get commercial rates and £1.50 per transaction. It costs a lot less than buying it and selling it back in the UK Quote
Pinto Boy Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 I got stung using Travellers Cheques 5 yrs ago. Bought some then returned them as didn't use that many - was on honeymoon and for some reason was having the time to spend money. Worked out I lost about £80 compared to using my card to withdraw money. Barclays were kind enough to refund this after a letter. I was surprised that using a debit / credit card was actually the best option as the rates are close to the interbank rates and better than UK over the counter rates. Quote
Mark Stanton Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 Cards are o.k but gotta be careful cos its £1.50 charge for each transaction still cheaper than what banks charge over counter Quote
samcooke Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 Say I had a big wodge of Euro cash - would you want to swap it with me norm? Quote
Norman Verona Posted July 7, 2010 Author Posted July 7, 2010 Sam, if you're serious then pm me with amount. I just bought 3 months worth but if it helps then no problem. Quote
Vinny's Westie Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 If you have a Nationwide card then you don't pay the administration fee, saves a lot of money, just use the card as normal and get a good transaction rate too. Quote
Norman Verona Posted July 7, 2010 Author Posted July 7, 2010 Vinny, a lady over here always uses her Nationwide card and I've proved to her she's loosing 3c in the £ by not buying through the Fxs. OK if you're only getting a few hundred for a holiday but not if you're getting your living money! Quote
