Captain Colonial Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Italian motorsport body backs Ferrari's Valencia outrage FTA: "The success of a sport is measured by its ability to be credible and above all understandable to the general public," said CSAI (Commissione Sportiva Automobilistica Italiana) president Angelo Sticchi Damiani. "What happened on Sunday ... damages the credibility of the category; I don't think anyone, whether in the grandstands or in front of televisions around the world understands what has happened." Dunno about anyone else, but I understood it OK. He must know a lot of dumb people. "A driver who passed the safety car got on the podium, while others, taking advantage of the same situation, also had an advantage over their rivals. But others - those who respected the rules - were the victims. Perhaps some of the regulations about behaviour in Formula One must be investigated and evolved so that they do not create more uncertainty and confusion." The Italians, on behalf of Ferrari, lecturing about and getting outraged over following the rules? This is just about the funniest and most ironic thing I've read on F1 this season. Of course, everyone knows that illegal flexible floors that get overlooked and aren't penalised by the FIA once discovered, blatant driver's finishing orders and a dozen other things are all about "respecting" the rules. Italian reports also quoted Sticchi Damiani as saying CSAI's support of Ferrari is not "to be controversial, but to be constructive". Of course they are! Quote
Fat Albert Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Had the Safety Car been deployed 1s later, both Hamilton & Alonso would have passed it before the critical point but Massa would not Does anybody anywhere think that, in that case, Alonso/Ferrari/Tifosi/Italian Drivers Of Tanks With 5 Speed Reverse Gearboxes would have thrown their toys out of their pram with such gusto? Fat Albert Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 PS Q. Who put the last 3 bullets into Mussolini's twitching body? A. 200 Italian sharpshooters Quote
echoz Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 #They make it sound like he overtook the safety car at 180mph down the main straight Quote
cidersurfer Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 If you look at the overhead, Hamilton seems to slow quite drastically as the safety car crosses the white line which separates the pits from the track and then recovers. I think the safety car should be investigated. Quote
housebeautician Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 I'm getting the idea that they dont like Lewis for some reason!! Obviously rules in their world are different to everyone else's. Quoting Mr Alonso "Is no fair" Come on Lewis Quote
pistonbroke Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 I love the smell of a safety car in the morning Quote
Pinto Boy Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 I'm sure the radio message from Alonso during the race was that Lewis held him up, not he overtook the safety car. Alonso thought Lewis had slowed enough so that he (Lewis) could get in front of the safety car but forced Alonso to keep behind it. Holding someone up so it affects their race / qualifying - now why would Alonso think Lewis would want do to that to him. Considering how long it took the stewards to reach a result & the footage to come out I am very surprised if Ferrari knew Lewis had overtaken the saftey car before the stewards did. I have a feeling that Lewis was trying to get one over on Alonso, his evasivenss in the press conference was of someone who was trying to aviod getting caught. He's just too smooth & corperate to lie. Quote
housebeautician Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 I have a feeling that Lewis was trying to get one over on Alonso. If that is true, then surely whats good for the goose is good for the gander. I think he had to much going on at the time to think about how he can get back at Alonso and when dealing with the press you have to choose your words very carefully i believe otherwise its all twisted to make news. Perhaps it should be called Technical Driving Quote
neilb Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 I think that the most interesting point of all this was that the stewards said that the president for the penalty was a drive through, makes me wonder who set that president and what team they were driving for.... I know who my money is on Quote
Blatman Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 QUOTE He's just too smooth & corperate to lie. He lied when ordered to last year. His evasiveness is a reaction to that. Old Chinese proverb says the best way to save face is to keep the lower half shut... Quote
