Paul Hurdsfield - Joint Manchester AO Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 I'm thinking of hiring a genny for the GP. All i'm going to use it for is to top up the caravan battery, and hopefully set up a hard disc/dvd recorder on timer to record the qualifying on Saturday and the race on Sunday while we're in the circuit. The rest of the caravan will run on gas. I can hire one quite cheap, its only 750w and will run for about 5 hours on 1ltr of petrol. Anyone with any experience of this type of genny? will it do the job or will i be wasting my money? Failing that anyone near Manchester want to lend me a nice light, quiet one for about 10 days, (it will only be used as described above) after the GP we're moving on to a proper caravan club site for the rest of the week and will have a hook up. Mark Stanton Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 Paul - 750w is fine for what you want ..... I have a Honda one for my van and its great for TV, Ipod, lights etc etc even runs fridge when gas bottle empties Kipor ones are relatively cheap to buy Making sure you have a quiet one is essential + a strong chain to stop some "erbert" walking off with it Quote
Paul Hurdsfield - Joint Manchester AO Posted June 30, 2010 Author Posted June 30, 2010 Thank Mark I knew you'd know I'm aware about the noise bit, but it shouldn't really be a problem at the GP cos' it will only be used during the day when everyone will be in the circuit and the campsite deserted, thats why it will have a BIG chain on it. pistonbroke Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 Honda gen is very quiet but they are expensive to buy Big question mark (no pun intended) re noise levels on the one you intend to hire Why not take an extra battery ? the load wouldnt be too bad , should run a video DVD for a few hours and you will have a spare batt and none of the pizzing around with fuel etc . Paul Hurdsfield - Joint Manchester AO Posted June 30, 2010 Author Posted June 30, 2010 An extra 110ah battery will cost ? When I've used it for the weekend what do I do with it? I can hire the genny for £25 use it for 2 days, hump it about in the boot for a week, then take it back, it's a bit of a no brainer to me, I probably wont use one again until next years GP. Quote
cast iron Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 your going to leave the genny running unatended while you are at the GP on a GP camp site, It will be gone when you get back, beleive me Quote
