Tyres - What's the best?

Can I please have your opinions on the best make of tyre for my tintop A3 2.0 TDI

The size is 225/45/17

So far its between Toyo Proxies 4E or Nankang NS-2, the Nanakang are obvicously cheaper but may not last as long as the proxies. Are Toyo proxies worth the extra?

Nankangs are made by Yokohama, IIRC... ;)

I would  go for the continentals i have tried pirellis but keep going back to continentals the fronts last around 23,000 miles of mixed motorways and a roads on my A3 2.0TDI.

How do you find the A3 2.0 TDI? I am so impressed with it. I bought a superchip bluefin and the car is a dream to drive. We just drove from Toulouse to Chester and back without problem and from Toulouse to Calais we had only used 1/4 tank of Diesel :-)

I love it, the performance is amazing for a diesel and like you say the economy is great and in 125,000 miles in the last 4 years it has not needed a thing except a drop of oil.

Its probably the best company car decision i have made the only slight niggle is the hard suspension.

When i was selling wheel packages they supplied me half a dozen sets with nangkangs on, were the worst tyre ive ever driven on, i dont know what model they were but i was pleased to be shot of them  :0  :0

for the last 4 years Ive been getting Audi wheels fitted with  Accelera tyres , tread pattern is the same as a continental sport contact and they work well wet or dry and seem to last very well too , 225/40/18 think cost me £48 ish  :suspect:  :suspect:

Have a look here. Its not all about mileage on tyres I have been trying to educate some of my customers that price should not always be the deciding factor.  ;)

Which? consumer group did a tyre test:

QUOTE
Nangkang ULTRA SPORT NS-2 has good dry grip but falls short of the class standards for wet grip, with poor ratings for wet braking, resisting aquaplaning on a bend and wet handling. Even though, like all the tyres we’ve tested, it passes all the minimum legal performance requirements, we recommend you Don’t Buy it. - Poor wet braking, lateral wet grip and wet handling 2 stars

The Goodyear Eagle F1 got a good review (average price £93 in your size) with 5 stars for dry grip and braking and 4 stars for wet grip and braking - it's what I have on the VX220 and it's very good  :t-up:

Cheapest of the tyres tested by Which? in your size with a reasonable score (4 stars for all dry and wet tests) was the Fulda Carat Exelero - £75

You could also read the Autoexpress tyre test as it was for your size:-

Click on each tyre tread to see a summary of that tyres pros/cons  ;)

the nangkangs i had were worse than usless in the wet , nearly ditched an A4 with them on coming off a roundabout so that goes along with my findings  :0  :0

the acceleras I get are good in both wet and dry, never had a complaint from any of my customers either and quite a few have asked me to get them the same tyres when they have needed replacments  :t-up:

Wet grip is not a massive problem here  NOW  :p

I have managed to find some Bridgestone Potenaza's reasonably priced and they seem to be a good performer.

Perhaps I will avod Nankang in the furture judging by the response.

Cheers for all the responses though!
