I have a simple question regarding the installation of CV Joints on the drive shafts....

Is there a right and wrong way to build the joint ?

I'm fully aware there is a grove offset to one edge of the joint that is fitted inboard but the reason I ask is actual inner 'race' and bearing cage are symmetrical but one of the edges on the inner race has a groove cut into it. Must be there for a reason. Anyone help ?

Thanks...

The groove is the side where the rubber boot/ dust cover  fits.

My cv joints have the boot and cover already joined.

Also I was advised not to fit the supplied gasket as it is more difficult to achieve the required torque on the Torx or Allen screws as the gaskets are brittle.  Seems strange that gaskets are supplied but maybe not needed. I don't know which is best.

By the way are you building a new car or replacing the joints? If replacing you could check the existing postion of the joint grooves.
