Engine installation

Hello all,

Hired a hoist today to install my Zetec/MT75 combo and am having real problems getting the thing in. The problem is that the gear lever is still attached to the gearbox which means that the angle needed to slide the g/b up the tunnel is too large & I can't seem to do it :(

I have tried to remove the gear lever but after a few hours still no luck. The shaft seems to be attached to the ball by a taper but I cannot remove it. The ball has a bolt through underneath but I cannot remove that since it is blocked by the cage.

Please help since I don't want to have to keep the hoist for another day!

Thanks,

- Dan.

May be stating the ovious here but you tried lifting the chassis up higher at the front to enable you to use a steeper angle of  the lump then once the box is under the floor, lower and guide it back and upwards at the same time with the aid of a trolly jack of course. :t-up:

I had the same installation ( still have! ) but it went in very smoothly with the hoist AND the gear lever attached.

Suspend the engine with the gearbox low as shown in the following picture:-

Lower the engine tiny bit by tiny bit and swing it backwards into the engine bay. Get one of the other pair of hands to hold the gear lever (from the the cockpit side) and pull it upwards and the whole lot will really just 'slip in'.

Thanks for the replies.

Step, that's a serious angle there :D

Anyway, after a lot of brute force I managed to get the gear lever off and finally stuffed the #### engine in, though it was still kinda tricky; not quite the 'lift engine; slide down tunnel' as per the manual!
