MPH321 Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 Hello all, Im in the process of buying my 1st westfield and i have found 2 that im very interested in, the 1st is a sbd 225 red top vx engined live axle wide bodied and the 2nd is a dunnell zetec engined wide bodied irs. I know both engines are good but its the differences between live vs irs that interest me, iv searched this site and found what it seems is an endless debate and it looks like it comes down to what the vehicle is used for. I do several trackdays and the yearly pilgrimage to the nurburgring in a mitsbishi evo but want to do the same in something with a lot better power to weight, am i right in thinking on track theres not a lot of difference between the two but on the road with undulating surfaces the irs car will be more comfortable? Many thanks in advance Matt Quote
Terry Everall Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 I think that a live ale car with a 225 redtop power is not a good combination on track and likely that the back end will break Go for IRS Quote
Bean Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 I think that a live ale car with a 225 redtop power is not a good combination on track and likely that the back end will break Go for IRS How many people could really tell the difference on track? Just curious Isn't Mr Simpson's race car live axle? Quote
Terry Everall Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 If you ask Mark Walker or others at the factory they will tell you that 225bhp is not good for a live axle ( ie not IRS) car as it cant deal with the power Quote
MPH321 Posted June 6, 2010 Author Posted June 6, 2010 Thanks for the advice, thats a shame as the 225bhp live axled car looks really nice and ticks all the boxes, might have to keep looking as the zetec engined irs car was lower powered. Quote
markcoopers Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 A 225bhp live car sound like someone has spent a bob on it, is there any effidence that the rear axle recieved any of that cash? Terry would know more about this than me, so i would take his word, but if the axle is say for example a full quaife group 4 job with modified radius arms and pickups, then it might be OK. To be fair this is a tad like clutching at straws as that is a lot of BHP regardless, let alone for am old English tube. Quote
Glen H Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 So did you go ahead with a purchase? Did you get this one by any chance ? http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1714908.htm Quote
