Norman Verona Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 Curious. All seem to be ali blocks and heads and why strip and clean them before smashing them. Quote
Dave Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 Probably faulty castings even these days the reject rate can get quite high Quote
Nomexnomad Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 I didn't see any Pinto blocks in there...... Quote
rob iles Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 don't mix heavy steel ..pinto's with lightweight ally durabang its easier to sell to the scrapman Quote
davidgh Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 Alumin(i)um is worth much more per ton than steel -- although, admittedly, you only get three Pinto blocks to the ton. Seemed to be a lot of scrap alloy straight six blocks there! Wonder where they come from? Quote
cast iron Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 Ive been to the Factory (Farm) in Wales where a certain large American company send there scrap blocks for rework! Quote
Nomexnomad Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 QUOTE I didn't see any Pinto blocks in there...... I was trying to suggest that a Pinto block would clog the machine... never mind Quote
salexander Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 I think there's something strangely addictive about watching the machine effortlessly chewing chunks out of the scrap cylinder heads Quote

V8grunt Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 Needs to be a bit more powerful in my humble opinion! They kept having to back it off and try again! obviously powered by a bike engine! Coat got. Quote
Martin Keene Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 Curious. All seem to be ali blocks and heads and why strip and clean them before smashing them. Containimation. The engines are removed from the scrap car, stripped down to the different material types, washed and shredded. The aluminium chips that result from that shredder will be melted down into ingots and bought by foundries to cast into another engine block, or some such part. Quote
