DavidC Posted November 18, 2002 Posted November 18, 2002 Looks like I've bought an engine. Well, paid a deposit on one, will pay the rest after Xmas and pick it up then. Seeing as that'll probably need a graduate loan I may as well order the kit to bolt it to I guess. It's a VX XE that's been completely rebuilt, reground crank, new bearing, valves, valve guides, piston rings, ARP bolts are fitted, and comes with a set of gaskets and new head bolts. It has kent cams fitted but the seller's not sure what spec they are, but it has vernier pulleys on it. Also has a new oil pump, and there's a dizzy on it. It may or may not have a DCOE inlet manifold with it, the seller can't quite remember if he bought one or not (it sounds like this guy has/had quite a few projects on the go) The price........£600. Have I got a good deal? Now, anyone know a good place to find some 2nd hand 45's? DC Quote
neo Posted November 18, 2002 Posted November 18, 2002 Basically its hard to say when you say did i get a good deal, the trouble with engines is,it depends on who's building it,i mean if you give £10,000 worth of parts to a shoe salesman to build it it will be of poor quality, but give a professional £500 he could build a sweet motor, but on the face of it from what you have said above it looks canny, does'nt look like its been rebored from above specs which depending on original milage of the engine may be a concern but it depends,is the engine built up just the way you put comes with gaskets ?. as for the carbs check out the find it,racecar, rally spares sites there are plenty available all the time. hope this is of some use. brianm Posted November 19, 2002 Posted November 19, 2002 Depends if you subscribe to the rebuilt is best, or original low mileage rules faction, both having merits. What is certain is that the askn price for 2.0ltr XE engines has dropped dramatically recently. Breakers were asking and getting £600 a year or 2 ago, now, well, to test the water I placed a wanted ad on a breakers search a couple of weeks ago and it produced several 40-50k mile engines with history for £350-375. The mileage does however take a bit of believing as the last ones produced, (with the exception of genuine reps from vx), were produced 9 years ago. Inspite of this ,I still favour the unadulterated version. Just my HO. Brian. Quote
