Rory's Dad Posted June 17, 2010 Author Posted June 17, 2010 Martin - I'll get back to Damian - am just so relieved to have got it going again!! Damian was a bit stressed when I went to pick it up as the next car he had on the rollers over-heated and caught fire. Luckily it was a competition car with an in-built extinguisher... And thanks again for your help. Rory's Dad Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 Hi Martin, It's great to hear that you finally got it sorted but as far as I'm concerned it's still a complete mystery as to what was wrong... ...So, can you find out some proper info as to what exactly the guy found and did to fix it, I'm very interested to know as it was very frustrating for me... Absolutely, the only thing better than knowing the problems been solved, is a bit more info on what it was, and how exactly it was fixed! It's surprising both how useful threads like these can be, further, sometimes years, down the line; and, how often, sadly, a thread with loads of excellent technical help suddenly ends with an "it's all OK now". It's threads like these that help to make the techie side of the forum the great reference tool for fixing your own woes that it is. Quote
Rory's Dad Posted June 18, 2010 Author Posted June 18, 2010 Just had a brief word with Damien and this is what he did: Adjusted fuel pressure Adjusted TPS Adjusted initial settings Full remap It was therfore a combination of things rather than one thing in particular. I think the thing that I've learnt about this is to bring the experts in sooner rather than later - he just exuded confidence although it took him longer than expected. The bill was just over £300 - money well spent IMO and, as I've said before the car absolutely flies now. To be honest I think it had been going 'off' over a period of time. Was becoming trickier to start and popped and banged on the overrun. Rory's Dad Quote
FW500 Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 IMO £300 for a full remap is a sensible price and if it got the car flying it's a bargain. Quote
John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 IMO, if he did things in the order listed a full remap would be a necessity. It could have been something simple but adjusting fuel pressure, TPS and other settings first off will have upset things before initially investigating the fault thus resulting in having to remap Glad you are sorted though with good results Quote
