markg Posted November 15, 2002 Posted November 15, 2002 how do you back the pistons off on the rear calipers? ie. to fit new pads! is there some sort of internal self adjuster or something Quote
Blatman Posted November 15, 2002 Posted November 15, 2002 They wind/screw back in, either using a pair of snipe nose pliers (the hard way) or with a special tool from Sykes Pickavant, available at Halfords for something like 15-20 quid (the eeeeeeeeasy way......)........ Quote
markg Posted November 15, 2002 Author Posted November 15, 2002 would a angle grinder spanner do the job? Quote
jamie Posted November 15, 2002 Posted November 15, 2002 Yes it the spacings fit the pins but it only goes back in with pressure and screwing not just screwing it as it just spins i have done the job with pipe grips and a G clamp jamie Quote
george Posted November 15, 2002 Posted November 15, 2002 "would a angle grinder spanner do the job?" If you have an angle grinder spanner, might you, also, have an angle grinder? If you do, making your own tool is easy, fast and locost (oops, sorry about that ) The tool could be a rectangle of steel plate (say 0.080"). The working end needs to be wide enough to engage dimples on opposite sides of the piston, with a recess ground between the plate's edges deeply enough to allow the creation of tangs which fully engage those dimples. The other end of the rectangle could be a piece of tubing welded along the edge to ease the force on your hands. Mine is built this way, thanks to ever useful advice from folks on this list. Quote
markg Posted November 15, 2002 Author Posted November 15, 2002 cheers blatman jamie and george will make my own tool thanks for the explanation! saved me some pennies again Quote
