adamnreeves Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 Can anyone recommend a place to get a vinyl number plate printed for my nose cone? Next day delivery ideally. Quote
Mark (smokey mow) Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 I've used Craigs Plates a couple of times in the past for a 3/4 front plate, I see they also self adhesive plates. They do however state on their website that "show plates" (ie those not manufacturered to the BSAU145d standard) are manufactuered in the Republic of Ireland due to british law so you may struggle to get one made up quickly. Seconded, top quality plates. However, vinyl front plates are a pain in the and you will need patience and a hair dryer to get them anywhere near flat to the nose cone. I prefer the way standard plates look, and of course if it "accidentally" (ahem) fell off due to impact and you just happen to have it in the boot until you can repair it at home (honestly, officer), then that's not your fault, is it? Or held on (temporarily) by cable ties near the top of the plate, and unfortunately when you drive the wind resistance pushes it backwards under the nose cone until you stop, that's just an oversight, right? Bean Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 I used this Ebay shop, individual letters rather than a plate. Vinyl-Signs Quote

Captain Colonial Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 Fixing of front registration plates: vehicles registered on or after the relevant date 6. (1) This regulation applies to vehicles, other than works trucks, road rollers and agricultural machines, first registered on or after the relevant date. (2) Except as provided in paragraph (5), a registration plate must be fixed on the front of the vehicle in the manner required by paragraph (3). (3) This paragraph requires the plate to be fixed— (a) vertically or, where that is not reasonably practicable, in a position as close to the vertical as is reasonably practicable, (b) in such a position that in normal daylight the characters of the registration mark are easily distinguishable from every part of a relevant area having the diagonal length specified in paragraph (4). (4) The diagonal length of the relevant area is— (a) in the case of a mark having characters the width of which is at least 57 millimetres, 22 metres, (b) in the case of a mark having characters the width of which is 50 millimetres, 21.5 metres, © in the case of a mark having characters the width of which is 44 millimetres, 18 metres I had a front vinyl plate for a while and it passed MOT because of 3 (a) Quote

Whether it's 100% legal, I don't think so My MOT station would'nt pass mine without proper plates! That's harsh especially having read the guidelines posted by captain c. Cannot put on the front on mine as it would either block the radiator grill or the oil cooler grill and beneath this is not heigh enough to clear speed humps. As I am sure this is the case for many of our cars. Quote
Captain Colonial Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 Practically every E-Type Jag has vinyl plates and never fails a MOT. I'd ring around and find a different MOT station manned by humans instead of mindless monkeys. Quote
adamnreeves Posted May 27, 2010 Author Posted May 27, 2010 With all the recommendations placed order with CraigsPlates. Thanks. Quote
