Cycle Wing brackets

Recommended Posts

I'm in the process of changing from swept wings to cycle wings.

I need the brackets which I can mount the wings on, is it just a case of contacting westfield or do I get them somewhere else.

Also, where do they go when I finally get them?????

A couple of choices here mate. Yes, they can be purchased from Westfield, but the Cortina uprights need modifying slightly to fit. They bolt on to a caliper bolt, and then clamp underneath the top ball joint nut. To allow adequate threads to penetrate through, the upright needs some metal removal.

Otherwise, you could source some brackets from Formula 27 etc, which use the old brake disc cover bolt holes to affix the brackets. Both types will probably mean that you will end up stripping the uprights, as with the latter method you will almost definately need to clean the threads out with a tap, and screw fixng bolts/studs in from the disc side.

Hope this makes sense, Stu

P.s. if you choose the Westy brackets, the metal removal is from the INSIDE of the upright, i.e. the fixing nut side.

Cheers Stu, that did make sense.

Right well that seems like a job for when I'm better, I ned new disc's and pads on the front anyway, and I need to fit the new wheels so I may as well do it all together.

Are there 2 fixing holes which need to be tapped out or is it just one hole?

You can get the brackets from Tiger Racing, Formula27 and I believe DAX as well. They use the three disc dust cover holes in the Cortina upright which are already tapped (M6 or M8, can't remember) and just need spacing out to get them centrally aligned over the tyre and look much better than the Westfield type ......I can email you a picture if you want  ;)

Them's the type I've got. Took an afternoon to align properly and sort. Mine were from Stuart Taylor about £35 I think, though I did have to bend and paint them myself and I've seen better welding on a badly welded thing, but the welds face the wheel so you can't see em. They do the job perfect and are easy to fit. You'll just need six m5 x 25 stainless bolts and twelve nuts and washers to get them spaced like peterg said. They bolt through the holes that secure the dust guard thing, you'll need to whip off the discs to get at them.

I used hammerite satin black to spray them, it's about as close to powder coating as a cheap skate like me can get.

Emails with pics attached on its way to all who requested them

BTW: if you get them from Tiger Racing, they come powder coated in satin black with good welding and if you get some aluminium bar and drill through the centre it looks better than a bunch of washers (IMHO)  :D

Tiger's website is here

Cheers,

Do they do the part on their website or do I ring them up and ask for them?  :durr:
