Matthew Swift Posted November 13, 2002 Posted November 13, 2002 I have just purchased some Weber40 DCOM Carbs, Can anyone tell me the difference between DCOM and DCOE. Cheers Quote
NevilleBull Posted November 13, 2002 Posted November 13, 2002 'ello The DCOM has a diaphragm-type accelerator pump, like the Dellorto DHLA, while the DCOE design has a piston-type pump. Very rare indeed. Probably off a french motor no doubt?? Pug? Quote
Matthew Swift Posted November 13, 2002 Author Posted November 13, 2002 Thanks. The Carbs came off fast westy, he said he had them on his 1800zetec. do you think I will have any problems? Quote
NevilleBull Posted November 13, 2002 Posted November 13, 2002 Well from what I can gather there seems to be a great deal of controversy over this subject. Some people say that the DCOM will produce better drivability due to the diaphragm-type accelerator pump, like the Dellorto DHLA. And often those people will go for the Dellorto carbs as parts for the Dellorto's are readily available and there are quite a few experts up and down the country. The problems you will find with the DCOM's are: a) People are less likely to know about DCOM carbs, therefore you are less likely to get the right jets & emulsion tubes from a local dealer - probably have to hunt around for somone who knows enough to help you & drive half way around the planet to find them! Most likely France! b) The main jets MAY be the same as the DCOE, but as for the idle jets, air correctors and emulsion tubes god knows? b) Not sure that you can use the same trumpets/air horns as the DCOE, I read somewhere once that for some reason they have different mounting locations. c) Unless you are particularly good at understanding French any DIY troubleshooting is out of the question. Mostly they were fitted as factory standards in performance models of various French motors, and Italian actually too. Some people now fit them to their basic Alfa's & old "hot hatch" pugs as a performance upgrade. Haven't seen any for sale in this country for ages. Mostly available in France, Italy and the US. Why not ask the chap you purchased them from if he knows where you can get parts / spares etc..? Out of interest, how much did you pay again? Quote
Matthew Swift Posted November 13, 2002 Author Posted November 13, 2002 £140 inc P+P. thanks for the info. I am a bit more in the picture now. Quote
Fast Westie Posted November 14, 2002 Posted November 14, 2002 Matt/Neville The carbs did indeed come from a French motor (Citroen AX GT to be precise) I believe they were also fitted to the early Nova GTEs in the UK. The majority of jets are the same as the DCOE carbs so are the trumpets, but you have those. Quote
