harky
I HAVE A 1700 CROSSFLOW BUT SEEM TO BE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE STARTER(LUCAS LRS100).TESTED THE SOLENOID,CHECKED THE RING GEAR AND TESTED THE STARTER THEY APPEAR TO BE ALRIGHT.COULD THIS BE AN ALIGNMENT PROBLEM? THERE IS ALSO AN OPTION OF 9 OR 10 TEETH ON THIS STARTER, THE CURRENT ONE IS 10 TEETH AND I HAVE BEEN TOLD THEY ARE BOTH UNIVERSAL AND IT SHOULD NOT MATTER? CAN ANYONE HELP? Doug D.
LRS100 IS DEFINITELY ALLRIGHT (sorry must keep my voice down) to use with a xflow with type 9 box, make sure your ring gear is in good nick also check that the bendix is spotless and not sticking, it shouldn't be greased or oiled, it doesn't matter whether its 9 or 10 tooth. some late escort mk2's had a pre-engaged starter with a diffrent flywheel though they a pretty rare. If you still can't sort it go in and drink 4 cans of scrumpy jack.

harky
After trying the ten tooth starter went for the nine tooth, tried it surprise, surprise still isnt working.seems to be catching the ring gear for a second then next try just screaming at me.Put car in gear to turn everything over then tried again.Same thing caught the first time for a sec then screams again.Running out of ideas as the ring gear appears to be alright.
