Having just removed Westie'swindscreen in preparation for fitting the aeroscreen, I have a layer of Vile gobbo (ok, silicon sealant stuff, but I thought Vile Gobbo would attract more attention)  :) - there must be a pound of it or so, been there since they built it in '99 I guess.....How do i best remove this without damaging the gelcoat?

You can by silicone remover from B & Q. I bought some for the silicone that was used to stick rubber trim to my seats but couldn't make it work.

White spirit ?

seems to work for me

only works well if the silicon is thin. Try to remove as much as you can using  a stanley blade or similar, but do it so that you....

a) dont touch/scrape the body with blade and cause damage.

b) leave a thin layer attached to body

Then it should work in no time.....

Careful using white spirit and such like - always wash off your bodywork as soon as possible to remove anything that may cause long term detriment to fibreglass  ;)

Thanks to all of you for advice.....found that best approach was with a brand new Stanley blade, which I could run along pretty much flat to the surface, so it cut through the silicon but the edge of the blade didn't dontact the gel coat, pulling up the loose section of silicon as I went - like skinning a fish....Aeroscreen now in place. :)

Took westie out for first run with the aeroscreen fitted....yeehaaarrr!!!! :)  :)  :) ...don't know if it really improved acceleration, but certainly felt like it did.

Sports seats now removed waiting arrival of Tritons ordered at Stoneleigh (due delivery 7/8 May, still not here...grrrrrr   )
